HULL City now have "no excuse" not to play Jimmy Bullard, according to Peter Swan.

Bullard has been frozen out of the first-team so far this season in a bid to prevent injury and therefore hinder any possible transfer back to a top-flight club.

But with the transfer window now closed, the possibility of Bullard moving on is over and the £45,000-a-week star will be at City at least until January when the window re-opens.

And that's why Mail pundit Swan believes City should try to get the best out of their highest-paid player, who cost £5m when bought by Phil Brown and Paul Duffen.

"The end of the transfer window means that City have no excuse not to play Jimmy Bullard," said Swan in today's Mail.

"I don't know what their reasoning was behind not playing him in the first place, but any reason has disappeared now.

"Quite simply he has to come straight back into the side as he's the best player in the Championship by a million miles.

"City have to make the most of their asset now and forget about the money he's on.

"The lad was given a contract more than a year ago and the size of it wasn't his fault.

"What City must do now is try at least to get some return on their massive outlay.

"If you buy a new car you don't leave it in the garage do you?

"You take it out for a spin occasionally so City must play their best player and not leave him in the stands.

"And if they don't take a gamble on him, how are they going to expect other teams to take a punt when the transfer window opens again?"

* More from Swanny in today's Mail, including how the Tigers should reshape their defence and why they need to strengthen with further loan signings.

“Get him back in the side. "Simples".
We couldn't off load him because he cant prove his fitness. Play him, he is the best player we have by a mile, if he gets injured again, so what, we are still paying his bloody wages if he sits at home.
He didn't blackmail us to come here, he was given a contract. Give him the chance to earn it. Fringe England player training with the Juniors....
Get him in there for Cardiff.
At the very least, give him a chance.”

    “Dave, workin in ull, Leeds.
You must be bucking the trend mate. Brains and Leeds are not words that come in the same paragraph never mind sentence. Hull education standards have been gim but are improving at long last. But its a bit rich for anyone from Leeds to comment on anything involving brains. Lol.
Some of the most stupid people i know have degrees. Work that one out Mr Multi-Qualification Man from Leeds ?”

    “Steve B, your post 10.06 sept 2nd
ALL FLARE and NO GRIT ?

Well may i suggest the grit would come from Ashbee and / or Harper when fit(end of sept it appears) 3 - 5 - 2

    Duke

    Ayala(due in) Gerrard Cooper

    Ashbee(c)

    Bullard Bostock Cairney

    Koren (in the hole)

    Cullen Simpson

With attack always the best form of defence. Let the others worry about us.
Fast, flowing football needs good movement and young legs. With only Ash and JB being anything of age. This team given time would deliver as they have great talent. Just need gelling time.

Some will say only 3 at the back ? Well they are all young lads who can easily do the work of 4 there. The flanks would be covered by the midfield. If we dont try we shall never know. But 4-4-2- and 4-5-1- simply aint working as its far to predictable. imo. Come on Nigel P.
Be brave and give it a go. Nowt to lose.

The bench would have lots of good experience to do impact jobs as subs or simply come on to close down a game. The future looks bright, imo.”

“time for bullard to show what he is really about ? playing great football. all these drinking stories are way over the top and ARE GROUNDS for having his contract cancelled if indeed true. but i doubt they are.

time for all parties to act like grown men and put the club first before there own petty little egoes. it wont take long for bullard to get his hero status back if he help the team to a few wins in sept will it. we have a yound looking and very exciting team being put together and it will need time and bullard (on the pitch) to get them going. as mel has posted, playing bullard, winning matches puts much needed cash in the coffers. get a grip everyone and do whats needed. play bullard, your know it makes sence.

    UTT”

“Some of the best posts ever to grace this site in recent times.
Johnny, I totally agree with your post.

Celtic would have him in their first team squad. They did not have any "lifestyle" issues.
The money is accounted for Adam Pearson clearly said so.
My maths is not very good, 4000 times £15 (the average gate receipt (adult/child/cons) = 60,000 divide by 2
    = £30,000
Not playing Jimmy Bullard could be costing the club 75,000 per week in lost wages and potentail gate income!
The has been reported in the national bakery press that in pie sales alone in the North stand are significantly down this year. In fact sales of the chicken balti (the back up pie) have dropped to an all time low as the age range in the stand has lowered. The top seller so far this season is the cheese (flavour) and onion. A pie which is aimed at the young and very old, as it contains no solids. It was beleived that sales of two handed food, would increase this season as there would be less to clap over, however the hot dog roll has not been successful, experts believe that like the roll itslef the price is hard to swallow.”

“Is this the same James Bullard who has plied his journeyman skills around the lower reaches of the Premier League for years, never attracting the attention of decent clubs with ambition? Dave workin' in 'ull, Leeds

We signed him from Fulham, a club so lacking in ambition that they reached the EUFA Europa League Final. You probably didn't notice, what with you concentrating on League One at the time.”

“Now the transfer window has shut. Bullard has to be put back in the full training with the 1st team. But jimmy wont just walk back in the the team. Because city already hav koren and bostock also young tom cairney all play the postion in the team. Cant see bulllard and koren, bostock all fitting into a 442. Adam pearson has never said its bullard fault. But jimmys wages r a big chunk of nigel pearson 15 m wage budget. Even bullard at his best cant stop city giving away sloppy goals.”

“Ian Offshore: Fortunately for myself and other key workers with a few qualifications from different areas around the country and plying their trade in your wonderful city, brains have to be imported into Hull. I think your recurring dismal educational stats bear me out on this one.”

“I haven't read all the comments below so forgive me if I say something that has already been said..

Lets get one thing sorted out here kids, Sir Adam had publicly stated, before the fallout, that Bullard had been budgeted for the forthcoming season. Therefore, it does not really matter how much of an increase in wage rises,Bullard will get, City already have the funds in place to accomodate him. However, the demotion to training with the youth team is probably because Bullard did not want to join Celtic. I feel the city heirachy have really spit their dummy out about this but should look on the flip side and realise it could be a massive blessing in disguise.
I feel it is now time to call on the efforts of Bullard and to put the awkward past behind them. If we are going to have any chance of finishing near the top 6 in the championship, then we are going to need an influencial playmaker, who can score goals.
like most, I was a bit peeved that Bullard did not perform in the latter stages of last season but on reflection feel that was all down to Duffen and Brown putting all the weight on his shoulders by relying on him to dig them out of the hole they had both created.
I fear Bullard is feeling the backlash of the Pro Brown and Duffen lovers but it was totally different, wasn't it? when Bullard came back from injury, showed most of us what he is about and the player of the month award for November. Cappello was even considering taking him to the world cup!
So again!, looking on the flip side, what frame of mind was Bullard in when he was injured again? His tears been carried off the pitch against Villa, must have done him in big time, yet no-one has even considered any of this for his below par performances. To take a massive knock back at Fulham and have the same injury occur at City, this 3rd injury must have been an incredibly massive blow , which must of made him feel his career could of been over.
No disrespect, but I really hope Bullard does play and makes the knockers eat humble pie. I think he can bring something to the team even though the anti Bullard brigade will endeavour to oust him out.
Whatever happens I don't blame Bullard for any of the plight we are in.
    Point of veiw Over!!!!!!!!!!”
