PHIL Brown has paid tribute to his Hull City squad for uniting to pull through the club's "hour of need".

The Tigers made it four games unbeaten with an impressive 1-1 draw at Manchester City on Saturday – their best run of form for 13 months.

Having seen his future as City boss thrown in doubt after a difficult start to the campaign, it is a remarkable turnaround for Brown's men.

And with the Tigers pulling four points clear of the bottom three in 15th, the resurgent boss has thanked his battling troops.

"Characters in the changing room have pulled together in their hour of need, in my hour of need and in Hull City's hour of need," said Brown.

"All of that has resulted in better performances and in better results.

"You look for men to accept the challenge and they are responding to it."

Taking eight points from four games following the return of chairman Adam Pearson, Brown has made huge strides to safeguarding his long-term future.

A draw at Eastlands, the scene of his infamous team-talk last season, represented more progress but Brown insists he has always felt supported.

"I've had nothing but support from everyone at the football club," he added.

"The change of chairman sometimes brings uncertainty but it hasn't brought uncertainty where I've been concerned.

"It's quite simple, results keep you in the business. There's been an uptrend in results and consequently, that's why I'm still standing here as a manager."

Brown has played down any notion of him cutting a low-profile figure but admitted recent weeks have seen him take a fresh look at his style.

"I'm conscious of my role, I wouldn't say more conscious, I'm just conscious of my role and the affect it can have," he said.

"In the face of adversity, sometimes the pressure can change your behaviour.

"I understand that there's pressure and there always will be in any game of football, we all want to win.

"We've all got different agendas but mine is to make sure I stay as manager of Hull City and we earn a third year in the Premier League."

“kevin, e yorks - It is a bit naive to think of the "good old days" with no agents.
Instead we had dodgy deals and people being paid under the table.
It is not that long ago that the "bung" scandal was being investigated.
The players have the upper hand at the moment and get the majority of the Sky money so think their agents are doing a good job. Unfortunately the players don't pay their agents now, the clubs do, separate to paying the players' contracts.
Definitely nice work if you can get it!”

“Mel, I read we have a 9million debt (if you believe whats said) to pull back, so at this point in time will let AP & co deal with it. Matters on the pitch are vital to us fans, But understand the feelings of fans not so lucky to be able to afford price hikes. That is something the board of directors will have to take onboard. Ps Its the price of fame, maybe?”

“Kevin, east yorks. I understand why you would prefer the terraces back but after Hillsborough it will never be allowed, and probably quite right too.”
