HULL CITY: I want to be a leader says 'blood and thunder' Gerrard

NEW boy Anthony Gerrard hopes to quickly emerge as a leader to help turn around Hull City's stuttering start to the season.

The Tigers have suffered an indifferent start to the new Championship campaign, winning just one of four league games.

It led to Nigel Pearson bolstering his defensive ranks with the deadline day capture of Gerrard from Cardiff on a season-long loan this week.

And the 24-year-old centre-back wants to bring his uncompromising style to the KC and kick-start City's season.

"Whoever I pull a shirt on for I'm 100 per cent fully committed, that's the only way to be," Gerrard told the Mail, who will make his debut against parent club Cardiff on Saturday week.

"I've got a lot more in my game than just blood and thunder but obviously that's the main attribute for a defender and that's what I've got in abundance. I try and be a leader on the pitch and hopefully I can bring all of my good attributes to Hull and leave all my bad ones at Cardiff.

"You learn new things day in and day out.

"I know what I need to work on and what I need to be better at.

"I hope I can make that progress here."

Gerrard admits a move to East Yorkshire came out of the blue on Tuesday.

The Liverpool-born defender was only informed of City's interest just four hours before the 6pm deadline but with first-team opportunities limited this season at Cardiff, he had no hesitation in heading north.

"I turned up at training as normal on Tuesday, had dinner and then at around two o'clock had a phone call to say Hull were interested.

"I was more than happy to come here.

"I'd only have been sitting on the bench at Cardiff anyway and this gives me a great opportunity to play some football.

"I've never been comfortable with being a squad player or being sat on the bench, I've played for the majority of my short career. I didn't want to go stale.

"I've been lucky enough to have a fantastic offer come in from Hull to go and play on loan for a season and I'm delighted to take it.

"This gets me more games under my belt in the Championship and helps me to progress."
