HULL CITY: I want to be a leader says 'blood and thunder' Gerrard
NEW boy Anthony Gerrard hopes to quickly emerge as a leader to help turn around Hull City's stuttering start to the season.
The Tigers have suffered an indifferent start to the new Championship campaign, winning just one of four league games.
It led to Nigel Pearson bolstering his defensive ranks with the deadline day capture of Gerrard from Cardiff on a season-long loan this week.
And the 24-year-old centre-back wants to bring his uncompromising style to the KC and kick-start City's season.
"Whoever I pull a shirt on for I'm 100 per cent fully committed, that's the only way to be," Gerrard told the Mail, who will make his debut against parent club Cardiff on Saturday week.
"I've got a lot more in my game than just blood and thunder but obviously that's the main attribute for a defender and that's what I've got in abundance. I try and be a leader on the pitch and hopefully I can bring all of my good attributes to Hull and leave all my bad ones at Cardiff.
"You learn new things day in and day out.
"I know what I need to work on and what I need to be better at.
"I hope I can make that progress here."
Gerrard admits a move to East Yorkshire came out of the blue on Tuesday.
The Liverpool-born defender was only informed of City's interest just four hours before the 6pm deadline but with first-team opportunities limited this season at Cardiff, he had no hesitation in heading north.
"I turned up at training as normal on Tuesday, had dinner and then at around two o'clock had a phone call to say Hull were interested.
"I was more than happy to come here.
"I'd only have been sitting on the bench at Cardiff anyway and this gives me a great opportunity to play some football.
"I've never been comfortable with being a squad player or being sat on the bench, I've played for the majority of my short career. I didn't want to go stale.
"I've been lucky enough to have a fantastic offer come in from Hull to go and play on loan for a season and I'm delighted to take it.
"This gets me more games under my belt in the Championship and helps me to progress."

“Rocker- have to agree with you. The priority has to be stabilizing the club again after 2 years of financial madness. Bullard repays the club who have paid him 45k a week for 18 months of doing virtually nothing by demanding an extra 6k a week when he plays a few more games. Contract or not I fully understand where the club is coming from on this. If they can't afford it then don't pay it. It's a pity Paul Duffen didn't think like that.”

“Just looked up Hooters Casino on google and looked at all the things you can do there but there's only one listed which says "Log onto the HDM and talk a load of Boll*cks about City"
Still I bet it's nice where you are Veneztiger, in Bransholme. Gibbo, Hull
why are you so obsessed with where I live like Mel U has previously stated, I am in his Facebook and so he knows where I say I live is true, you must have a pretty sad life as you do is come on here and abuse people, surprised the HDM allow it, but then there is no rhyme or reason to this site, that's why people are leaving in droves to 606 etc save your giros buy an airline ticket to Reno, get the bus to Mammoth and we can discuss the b0llocks you seem to think I talk in person, if you're man enough !

“why o why the lad Gerrard is getting such grief before he has even kicked a ball for the tigers makes me wonder why any sane player would want to play for our club anymore ? never heard or read so much whinging about nothing. we have a club that is now stable and getting its house in order after the crazy dayz of duffer & brown. only now are we finally seeing just how stupid these 2 were and supported by an even more crazy owner who let them waste so much money.
duffer and brown really had no idea of what they were doing and the Pearsons are now quite rightly in my view getting rid of ALL the players who have bled our club dry. enough is enough and i wont miss any of the players who have gone
APART FROM TURNER & HUNT. the 4 french lads were overall just like the french world cup squad. enough said.
what really annoys me more than anything is that in May 2009 Hull City could have signed Roger Johnson - Joe Ledley and Anthony Gerrard for very little money. by offering the likes of cousin - halmosi - garcia - marney. also that would have had the knock on effect of not needing the likes of McShane - Olofinjana or Sonko at club.
& that would have just been for starters.
well we are now in sept 2010 NPC land.
Gerrard and Cooper are the future and Ayala will also be a great addition. time to look forward and not back. just remember and learn from the awful mistakes of the last regime.crazy deals.

“Col, Hull - Totally agree Fagan is one of the worse players I have ever seen in 35 years of watching professional football, add to that Garcia who could be an average NpC right winger, Kilbane who at this time could only play left back or left centre half, and Folan who is what exactly and we see the reason we are struggling, a 22 odd player squad with those 3 and a few others means NP is going to be scrambling to put out a competitive side, still it's what it is and once again we have to stick with it, a few games and I really believe it will come together and up the table we go.
