HULL FC's under-20s team saw their play-off hopes ended at the first hurdle last night as they went down 33-14 at Huddersfield.

An elimination match between the teams which finished fourth and fifth, defeat means Hull's season is now over.

The loss completes a disappointing end to the campaign for Andy Last's side.

The Black and Whites had led the standings in the Valvoline Cup for much of the year before falling down the table in the final months on the back of a run of poor results.

Missing half-back Danny Nicklas and captain Liam Cunningham through season-ending injuries, Hull's effort at the Huddersfield YMCA ground could not be faulted, but their smartness in possession eventually cost them as they turned over too much ball and saw opportunities missed.
