HULL FC coach Peter Gentle says his determination to see through what he has started at the club made signing a new contract an easy decision.

Gentle has agreed a one-year contract extension which keeps him at the KC Stadium until the end of the 2015 season.

Admitting to being surprised by the offer from owner Adam Pearson, the Aussie says he said yes before even talking about salary or the finer points of the contract.

Pledging on his arrival a year ago from Wests Tigers to being here for the long haul, Gentle again reaffirmed his position.

"I've come here with a job to do and I want to see it through, I want to get us back up there where we belong," Gentle told the Mail.

"I made my intentions clear, I haven't come here using this job as leverage to get an NRL job, I'm here for the long haul.

"Everyone has settled so well, the city has made us feel so welcome and there is a lot of work to be done here that I want to see out.

"It was a surprise when Adam Pearson came with an offer, but I am grateful of being given an opportunity for another year."

The news comes a day after the Aussie coach ended his first season in charge yesterday with a 36-10 victory over Castleford at the KC Stadium.

The Black and Whites finished the campaign in sixth place, meaning they have a home tie in the play-offs against Huddersfield Giants next Sunday.

Gentle, who joined Hull having being assistant coach at Wests, and for the Australian national team, is now contracted at the KC Stadium until the end of 2015.

Gentle spoke to the Mail at Hull FC's player of the year awards dinner where captain Andy Lynch was named the player of the year by coaching staff. Danny Houghton won players' player of the year, whilst Richard Whiting took the award voted for by fans.

Young player of the year was Ben Crooks, with the try of the season being Tom Briscoe's effort against Leeds at the KC Stadium.

“What a joke, the dismal Dobbins conceding 48 points to the lowly Broncos and finishing the season 11, yes eleven, points behind their illustrious neighbours, the MIGHTY HULL FC. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Now that they failed to make the playoffs, even though the club above them were deducted 6 points, their losses next season will exceed even the massive £503,000 they lost last season and without Hudgell and Crossland to underwrite them that will signal administration yet again for the dismal Dobbins.
They are stuck with an under 16 level coach who Hudgell recruited on the cheap because they can't afford to sack him.At least four of their players,Clinton,McDonnell,Green and Murrell refused to play for them against the Broncos on Saturday and in fact Murrell has already gone on holiday even though the Dobbins are paying him up to November when his contract runs out.
The whole club from top to bottom is a complete joke and it will only get worse next season as your best players have either left or are leaving. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha”

“Smart move from Pearson , Gentle has already proved this season how good he is, in a year when the club have had the worst injury list ever plus players leaving and bad press all the disruption yet still get top 6 and could have been better. One loss at home to Wigan with a very weakened side is testimony to his coaching. The players respect him and it shows .Whatever happens in play offs the future is looking great”
