HULL KR: Clint still has a job to do

CLINT Newton says he and Hull KR have 'unfinished business' as they prepare to kick-off their 2010 Super League campaign.

And despite some questioning whether the Robins can match their success of last season, the former NRL Grand Final winner insists the club is still heading forward.

Preparing to start their campaign against Salford at Craven Park next Sunday, Newton has been named as vice-captain, alongside full-back Shaun Briscoe.

And the 28-year-old, who is contracted to stay at Craven Park until the end of the 2013 season, says winning trophies with Rovers – and possibly eventually being made captain – continues to give him inspiration.

"The driving thing for me is that I have unfinished business here," Newton said.

"Some of that was achieved last year on a personal level.

"I'm happy to be coached by Justin Morgan and I'm very happy to play for Hull KR.

"I like where the club is heading with Justin and it was great to see him sign on for three more years."

Newton has achieved many of the goals he has set out to achieve in the game, including winning the Grand Final in Australia with Melbourne in 2007.

But captaining a side is one of the things missing from his CV, and he says he is willing to wait for the opportunity to captain Rovers.

"Maybe one day I'll be Rovers captain," he said.

"It's been a privilege and an honour when Mick has been injured or when Shaun Briscoe hasn't been there that I've been able to lead the side out.

"I hold that really high on the pedestal for me.

"I've never been a proper captain at the start of the season.

"Myself and Shaun Briscoe will be vice-captains this season and Mick, who has done a fantastic job over the last few years, will be captain again.

"Mick seems to think he can play forever, or at least another half a dozen years or so.

"I might be waiting a while and if things work out that way I would definitely take it with open arms because I really do enjoy it.

"The club has so much history and tradition and to go down in the record books as a captain of Hull KR would be a real honour.

"I never looked at going back to Australia as I think I still have a job to do here in England with Hull KR.

"There was no other option for me than to stay here and do something special for this club."
