HULL KR winger Liam Colbon has taken up the option of a third year on his contract and hopes to extend his Craven Park stay even further later this year.

Colbon has enjoyed two successful years at Rovers, scoring 14 tries in 35 Super League games.

The 25-year-old has built up a good partnership with fellow winger Peter Fox and full-back Shaun Briscoe, especially when it comes to kick returns.

Although the winger has spent more time on the sidelines injured than on the pitch, he's delighted to stay on.

"It was quick and simple," Colbon told the Mail. "My agent told Mike Smith (Rovers general manager) I wanted to stay and the club said they wanted me to stay. That was about it.

"We are due to have further talks around Christmas time about possibly extending my deal further.

"It's a good place to be at with the young players coming through like Jordan Cox and Louis Sheriff.

"We are going to have good depth in squad and every club needs that."

Colbon has no regrets about leaving Wigan ahead of the 2009 season, even though his previous club wrapped up the league-leaders' shield with a win over Colbon's KR side.

But Colbon expects Rovers to be challenging Wigan next season if they sign the players they are hunting.

"I have no regrets about leaving Wigan to join Rovers," said Colbon.

"That was two years down the line and I'm a Rovers player through and through now.

"I feel I have improved as a player and I've made a lot of good friends here.

"I have bought a house in the area and I think we can win trophies here otherwise I wouldn't stay on.

"Everything here bodes well for the future.

"If we get our recruitment right we should be looking good for next season."

Now that his future has been sorted, Colbon wants to concentrate on the present and make sure they finish the season as strongly as possible.

"I don't think the Rovers fans have seen the best of us lately," Colbon said.

"We hope to rectify that this weekend ahead of the play-offs.

"Especially me, Shaun (Briscoe) and Peter (Fox) at the back.

"We review our performances every week and discuss ways in which we can improve and raise our individual games.

"We are going to have to put in a massive effort between now and the end of the season.

"Kick returns are a big facet of the game and is just as important as scoring tries."
