HULL KR Gene humbled at special award (video)
FORMER Hull KR star Stanley Gene admitted his award to mark his departure from Super League came completely out of the blue.
Gene was honoured at the annual Man of Steel awards night last night after spending the last nine years playing at the highest level.

Stanley Gene
The 35-year-old will drop down into the Championship after signing a two year deal for Halifax last week after scoring 50 tries in 179 Super League appearances.
The utility player, who is the only player to have played in the last three World Cups, said he was honoured to be recognised by the RFL.
"I'm very honoured and humble to receive this special award," Gene told the Mail.
"I never thought I'd get to play in Super League for as long as I did.
"During my time in England I have played for some great coaches, with some great players in some great teams.
"Nothing lasts for ever and my time in Super League has come to an end.
"I've enjoyed every minute of my time in Super League and I'd like to thank everyone who has helped me along the way.
"I'd like to thank Neil Hudgell for giving me the chance to come back to Rovers when they won promotion.
"Rovers will always be a part of me and I hope I will always be a part of Rovers."

“"Hope they're good". If that's the case then you dull fc fans will be ok then won't you, at least you may get to win a derby match and your predictions from the last two years may come true, at last!”

“At last KR have some news. This must be their new signing. Oh no it isn't just someone whose leaving.
It makes me laugh all these comments about no need to rush signings. Sts, Wire, Cas, Hudds as well as Hull have already strengthened for next year. Two of these finished above KR and one won the cup. Standing still is actually equivalent to going backwards.
Has it not crossed your deluded minds that only Leeds and Saints are left playing now and you aren't getting any of their star players. NRL finished as well.
Simple fact is that you are over paying average players, therefore star players want more than them and you can't afford it. Boom and bust. Boom was 4th place finish hope that was enough for you all?”

“SEAN LONG faces a ban for admitting in his book that he bet on more than one game he played in.
The St Helens ace rocked rugby league in his autobiography 'Longy: Booze, Brawls, Sex and Scandal', serialised in SunSport.
Long was banned for three months in 2004 for betting on Saints to lose at Bradford by nine points or more.
And the RFL may now investigate an admission that he bet on the first and last points against Leeds in 1998 to be drop goals at odds of 120-1.
Long wrote: "I didn't need to think. One word was repeating loudly in my head: 'KERCHING!'"
Francis Cummins scored a try to scupper the bet.
Any charges will not affect Long's participation in Saturday's Grand Final.”

“love the comments about stan being so loyal to the dobbins.just like judas cooke, he wouldn`t play for them til they got promoted. mind you. they just the same as all the jump on the bandwagon dobbins faithful. will the caravan park see more than a 10,000 crowd next season? doubt it unless fc home game gets televised there”
