HULL KR: Horne takes positives from defeat at Leeds
HULL KR's Graeme Horne says they can take plenty of positives from their opening night loss at champions Leeds Rhinos.
But he admits lessons also have to be learned from the way the Robins slipped away in the latter stages of the contest.

Graeme Horne knows the Robins must learn lessons from their opening night loss.
Horne's two first-half tries ensured Rovers were just two points adrift going into the break at 10-8.
But eventually falling to a 34-16 loss, Horne says Rovers have to focus on why they fell away at the end.
"Maybe we need to be mentally tougher," Horne told the Mail.
"Leeds won the league last year because they are the top team and we have to learn from things like this.
"The last two tries were sloppy from our point of view as we may have switched off a bit with the game out of our reach.
"The lads were disappointed, but we have to train hard this week and make sure we come out firing against Wakefield this weekend."
Crossing for two tries on his Super League debut for KR, Horne was Rovers' outstanding player on a bitterly cold night.
But the 26-year-old utility man, who played in the second-row at Headingley, says he can produce much better as the season progresses.
"I'd have swapped my two tries for a win and I'd have swapped the tries for a better performance from myself," Horne said.
"I dropped a few balls in the line which I have been practising the last 10 weeks.
"I should have caught them and if I can improve those little things it will make my overall performance better."
Rovers will head to face Wakefield Wildcats on Sunday looking for their first Super League points of 2012.
The Wildcats, now led by former Hull FC coach Richard Agar, produced an impressive defensive display as they opened their account for the new season with a victory over Widnes Vikings.
But Horne is confident Rovers will have enough to secure the victory and says they will travel in confident mood.
"There were signs that we can play against the best. I don't think the score reflected the game," he said.
"Anyone who watched the game will see the effort we put in. If a few calls had've gone our way at key times we would have hung on and got the win.
"It was a good game to take us into facing Wakefield.
"It was a slip-up but the lads will rally.
"We will go into the Wakefield game full of confidence."

“im very optimistic about rovers future yes we are in the mire about north stand but we will be ok, on the playing front again i think our side gave a food account for 65 mins then tired and conceeded silly tries but i also think we really need galea back to take pressure of the captaincy from dobbo, and we need o'hara back and defo green we have missed his darting runs and slick passing, please God let us have a season when we have dobbo and green fully fit, kr did real well without some big players missing just think if we can take the champions close with so many players missing what could we achieve when they are all back fit, also it will be very hard in the next couple of weeks wakey will be tuff and saints at home is a great chance for a win if we can play a weak warrington side like hull did we may get another win then widnes at home and bradford happy days”

“First time this team had played together competitively and we matched the champions at full strength on their own patch for 65 minutes!”

“i'm only repeating what was said on r/h, and looking at 1st few lines of the article. that's what seems to be said.nothing negative from me,just repeating what was said. if a team concedes lots of points at the end quarter of a game,it generally means they're knackered.hence what was said on r/h”

“i listened to the game on r/h,and can't remember who said it , but it was stated that he was disappointed with kr policy of using more than 10 interchanges in pre-season.and if you read the first few lines of what horne says , are the saying they were not fit enough?”

“I didn't go because of the 'is it on or is it off' ? But looking at what you all say, the match was 6 tries to 4, which to me is being very competitive against the champions. Bentham is clearly a problem to Rovers (and Hull for that matter) and I applaud CS for not bashing the ref but stating that he needs a meeting with the head honcho to find out what we are doing wrong - that's another positive. We lost but judging by this article the lads are aware of what needs to be done - another positive.
Let's see what happens against Wakey. I've a feeling this won't be as easy as we would all like to think. Might even see a red card - let's hope it's not Rovers!”

“I couldn't agree more, lots of positive's to take out of this game, a minor concern is that we got caught ball watching instead of kicking it out of play in our in goal which gave Leeds an easy try.
Another thing that must be taken into consideration is we had a few players out there on Friday who will have never experienced conditions like that, not an excuse but has to be a factor, I agree with Slammer lets stop the switching and let Craig Hall have a good stab at 6.
I'm pleased with the direction we're heading in and roll on Sunday.”

“I agree, many positives from Friday's game, the thing is they need to be taken to Belle Vue this week and built upon.
Although amongst these positives in what was probably our toughest game of the Season first up, we must recognise that we made mistakes and in the end were beaten by 18 points.
I have no problem with this as long as the team and Coach learn from it.
As a paying customer I want effort week in, week out, on Friday we got the effort, we must now turn that effort into League points and kick on.
Let's not forget that we have key players missing, a new Coach and many new players....it may take them a little time to get to know each other, therefore, we must play our part by giving them our vocal support and not getting on any ones back.
C'mon you Reds......!”

“have to agree with graeme,,a couple of lapses in defence, dobbo with his kicking boots on rovers could have had the points against the bigboys ,not bad considering it was the first match proper half the team had played together, the futures bright for the red and white”
