EIGHT years ago, Paul Luen was stood in a sparsely populated east stand hoping Hull KR would one day return to the top of rugby league.

Now, he's been appointed onto the Rovers board to help deliver that dream to supporters just like him.

Luen, a local entrepreneur, has been amazed by how far the club has come in such a short space of time.

Having built up his own company – Martek Marine from a £6,000 start-up company into a £7m market leading global business, Luen is hoping he can achieve similar results with Rovers and their determined board.

"The great thing about this club is that there is passion amongst the management team and that continues to burn," Luen told the Mail.

"I look back to eight years ago, when I was one of the 800 or so in the east stand.

"Things weren't quite as they are at the moment and to look at the progression we have made since then on the field is phenomenal.

"Now we need to replicate that progression off the field too with the commercial activities.

"That's why I'm really excited to be joining such a forward-thinking, passionate and progressing board."

See today's Mail for more from Paul Luen.

“I heard that he had to make a significant investment in the once famous wovers before being allowed to join the board. 50p, a stick of bubble gum, and a balloon.

All rise for the MIGHTY HULL FC”

“morequestions.my post makes perfectly good sense,of course they want to make a profit the trouble is the profit goes to the owners not the club.if you recall halfway towards the end of the season fans were on about boycotting games, marching to the kc in protest about the board, remember or maybe you were in your own little cocoon blissfully unaware of what was going on.your support deserves better but fortunatetly for the board the supporters keep stumping up the money, but it won't last forever, thats what happened in 1999 supporters finally got sick of the board and we know the rest don't we.”

“darren - you are confusing the article just like I said fans will. There is no mention of Luen investing anything other than time. Its propaganda to appease worries the fans have.

This guy has been driving a ferrari since you were in NL1. If that isn't a statement of wealth what is? His money is probably tied up in his successful business. There isn't even a suggestion of sponsorship.

As for Hull - Your statements make no sense. If you invest in a business you want it to do well. These people can now do 1 of 3 things.

Let Hull go to the wall and lose their money,

Find a buyer who will pay them off and walk away.

Or work hard to make the club a success to make a gain on their investment.

What you are suggesting is a 4th option. Keep the club in status quo and do nothing.

All the evidence at Hull is that people are working hard off the field to make it work hence the A license from the RFL. Hull FC as a business is way ahead of most SL clubs even if the team are something of shambles at present.

If Hull need a buyer I don't know if someone will come in or not but it is highly unlikely the current management set up would walk away potless.”

“morequestions.breathing easily thanks, always good to know their are supporters of the club willing to put money into their club, hudgell, crossland and now luen,so the prospects look good.if i were you i would begin to think about your clubs finances if nobody wanted to buy your club 10 years ago why would anybody want to buy it now.in those days you had a stadium you could call your own,now you have nothing other than a terrific fan base,a ground which looks great but isn't what you need for rugby league, plus a 2m debt.as i say if nobody wanted to buy you then why should they now.like yourself iam not a business man but to buy a 2m debt plus whatever they want dosen't seem a good investment from where iam sat.what do you think.? because in my opinion until you get a board interested in the club you won't progress.”

“darren - stop choking on that pie and breathe. My 1 of the 800 is a direct quote from Paul Luen himself.

Where was I when Hull had financial problems - at university. I help my club every year by investing in numerous shirts, passes, etc and had I been older and had the finances I would have then.

My field isn't business so I wouldn't throw my hat in the ring but have an opinion about this article.

Why didn't anyone come forward. No idea only those on the board at the time would know that. Many reasons I suppose but Mr Lloyd I seem to remember was making life very difficult for both Hull FC and Hull City.”

“morequestions.my post was in direct response to you.in an earlier post you said if he was 1 of the faithful 800 why didn't he come forward then, perhaps he was in the process of making his money.and on the subject of our so called financial problems for the 2nd year running,if your such a wonderful club why didn't somebody rush forward to bail you out instead of leaving it to the humiliation of a smaller club buying you out.you constantly say about all your support, are they all so skint you have to be run by people from leeds.if you have such wonderful business acumen how come you aren't coming forward or are you just a typical supporter whose words speak louder than actions.where were you when hull were bought out.?”

“darren - read the other posts on the thread. My comment about crowds was in direct response to a KR supporter.

Then when you have finished swallowing your humble pie try digesting this.

Rumours have been circulating for a while that KR are having some financial problems. People pointing to cut backs, ground improvements, a lack of player recruitment, cancelled trips, redundancies as evidence of this.

Then suddenly in the mail an article about a wealthy supporter joining the board. One of the main thrusts of the article being how much he is worth.

However no mention of any finances exchanging hands. Just the hope that gullible supporters will put together 2 and 2 and get the wrong impression.

This article is in my opinion a prime example of the Hudgnell/Morgan propaganda machine in full flow.

Just like FC announcing new signings when everything was going pear shaped. All clubs fine tune the media to their advantage. Don't pretend KR are any different.”
