HULL KR have turned to hypnotherapy to gain an advantage in Saturday's do-or-die play-off derby with Hull FC, the Mail understands.

The Robins are believed to have sent players for a series of 'mind over matter' sessions this week as part of their big match preparations.

The sessions have been aimed at training players' minds not to feel pain – a method used by Irish super-middleweight boxing champion Steve Collins in the 90s.

Collins fought his way to two famous world title victories over Chris Eubank using the hypnotherapy approach described as 'the unconscious attention response'.

It led to Eubank saying his opponent had been 'turned into a machine'.

The hypnotherapy sessions basically aim to help people control and eliminate pain by training their minds solely on a single and clear focus – namely victory over Hull FC for the Robins on Saturday.

With both derby battles proving bruising and physical affairs this season, the Mail understands KR coach Justin Morgan was keen to seek all options to give his side a physical edge.

It is thought a number of players have experimented with the hypnotherapy sessions in recent weeks.

Having reported back to coaching staff positively, all players have been offered the sessions ahead of this weekend.

“You've gotta admit with this and complaining about Bentham is a dangerous game of kidology! You'd have thought after Newton spitting his dummy out Morgan would know better!”

“Oh No's, panic!!!!! Rovers have hypnotherapy whereas Hull have to rely on speed, skill, technique and good old fashioned hard work. Lets see who comes out on top. That Paul McKenna doesn't come cheap. Another person to add to your growing list of creditors!”

“clive, I do admit Rovers are taking a gamble on Mason and the jury is still out as far as I am concerned. Once he gets his visa and medical clearance then I will start to consider it in a different light but not until then.
But my point is - Rovers present recruitment campaign has nothing to do with Rovers finances which you and many on hear keep alluding to ie rovers are going bankrupt blah blah. What it has to do with is meeting the present rfl squad criteria and remaining within the salary cap of £1.65million.
Everyone knows about Rovers recurring losses but the Board are signalling their intent to run the rugby side as close to the salary cap as possible. I dont think they would do this without the neceessary funding.”

“slammer I dont need to remind you ,your chairman made it clear last season how your club was in debt and the only way forward was bigger gates ,i have been lead to believe that your gates are down this year so it dont take much working out does it? rovers are taking agamble on mason even you admit that.”

“ok clive, I notice you like to play on the old chestnut about rovers debt so come on, get it off your chest once and for all and tell everyone the bad news. Dont forget to mention the things we already know; such as the club are continuing to run at a loss; Mason is going to bankrupt the club; there's no way the club will average 10,000; the stadium will never be improved; the franchise will be revoked and so on.”
