HULL KR: Morgan sticks with just the two overseas signings

HULL KR will not be adding further overseas signings to the captures of Willie Mason and Blake Green for 2011.

Having attracted the two high-profile NRL stars to Craven Park, coach Justin Morgan says his focus is now on preparing some young KR players for Super League.

Mason's two-year deal was confirmed by the Robins at the weekend, while Green has told the Mail he is simply awaiting his visa.

Their capture has caused great excitement among the Robins fans, but Morgan is just as happy with the progress made in the youth ranks.

"That will be the end of the overseas players for next season," Morgan told the Mail. "We have some really good overseas players but our squad will also consist of good, young Hull KR players."

Two of those players will be Jordan Cox and Louis Sheriff, who both recently signed their first professional contracts.

Morgan has great confidence in those players, and others, for next season and the years ahead.

"Jordan and Louis have already been announced and there will be another one this week plus another two a little bit later on," Morgan said.

"We are hoping for big things from players like Richard Beaumont and Sam Latus who have been involved in the squad for a while now.

"I want them to continue their progress so they become first-team regulars."

Rovers will have five of their academy players in next season's first-team squad. It's an achievement Morgan is proud of, and he feels it is an aspect of Rovers' work which stands them apart others.

"We have two signed up from the academy already and we have two or three more coming," said Morgan.

"I am really proud of that and I'm not sure how many clubs can boast five signings from their own academy through to the first team squad for next year.

"We are buying good, experienced internationally recognised players but we are also promoting from within and fast-tracking some of the young players through."

"In the market place at the moment, English players are very expensive. They are over-inflated with their price."

Looking ahead to 2011 and the make-up of his squad, Morgan says Mason's arrival will mean his current back-rowers won't be asked to play 80 minutes every week.

Ben Galea and Clint Newton, KR's first-choice second rowers, often play full games because they are so important to the team structure.

But Morgan admits he is tempted to play Mason in the second row to help with the rotation of his back-row forwards.

"We most probably see Willie as a back rower," he said. "It's an area we were most probably light on this year.

"We have two or three back-rowers but we could do with four or sometimes five genuine ones. This will allow us to move Ben Galea or Scott Murrell to loose forward.
