HULL KR skipper Mick Vella hasn't allowed himself to dream of leading Rovers out at Old Trafford, but admits it would be right up there with everything he has achieved in the game already.

Vella played for New South Wales 10 times and Australia eight times in an illustrious career before coming over to help establish Rovers as Grand Final contenders in Super League.

But leading Rovers out in the Grand Final in just the club's fourth year in the top flight would be an achievement to rival what he has done in Australia.

"I've not dreamed of leading Rovers out but it is something I really want to achieve," Vella told the Mail.

"The Grand Final is something I want to win, as we all do in the Rovers squad.

"To do that with this team would be a remarkable achievement as the squad was only put together three years ago.

"We have already achieved something special by staying in Super League when we did and we have continued to grow from then on.

"I'm very proud of what we have achieved as a team and the next step is to reach the Grand Final and win it.

"I got to a Grand Final with Parramatta but lost it to Newcastle. We dominated the season but didn't perform when it mattered.

"We have to perform when it matters and that starts on Saturday against Hull."

“Who ever wins on Saturday will get thrashed in the next round. Both teams are too slow against the likes of Wigan, Warrington, Saints and Huddersfield. Hull are still too predictable and Rovers play a much more expansive game, but sadly get tired. The problem with all players from the Southern Hemishere ( at the end of the season particularly ) is as soon as they suspect they will be beaten they start dreaming of home. If they take a flight next week it gives them nearly 4 months in the sunshine. Saturday will come down to which of the Southern Hemisphere players are dreaming of home the most. Last year the Rovers players couldn't wait to get on the plane. Hopefully they will concentrate a little harder on Saturday - if only for revenge.”

“Wrong, the home team get the gate receipts but all the top eight teams get prize money depending on the position they finish in the top eight.”
