HULL KR: Robins turn down chance to sign former Test star
HULL KR have turned down the chance to sign a former Australian Test star, according to chairman Neil Hudgell.
Speaking on the club's live webchat, Hudgell says the unnamed player would have put Rovers over the salary cap.

However, he pledged that the Craven Park club would continue to search for the right players at the right time.
Hudgell insisted there was "nothing sinister" in the late filing of Rovers' accounts.
He said there were two prime reasons – firstly, some tax write offs to be approved by the Revenue, which cannot be done retrospectively. And, secondly, a game-wide revenue review into image rights payments.
Hudgell confirmed work was continuing behind the scenes on the possible extension to Craven Park, the club has a new major sponsor for 2010 and season ticket sales are comparable to last year.
Hudgell admitted there have been redundancies at the club, but have recruited in various new areas.
He said Rovers need to be regularly playing in front of 10,000 crowds to maintain their challenge at the top of the sport.
Rovers' chairman also confirmed that the loss for the last accounting period filed was £478,000 and the loss for this accounting period will be £447,000.
He anticipated the loss for this next financial year will be on a par with that.

“10-5 in the build up to rovers promotion season they had a new pitch laid and made all their players full time. this was paid for with a £500,000 COMMUNITY grant from....... the COUNCIL. i think you have selective memory mate.”

“No surprises here then. We have funds for players. Yes but not anyone who will make any difference. Utility players at best.
Also his quote that we have 5 players off contract in 2011 doesn't instill a huge amount of confidence in the squad. If I was one of those players I would be feeling disillusioned now.
You have all been warned by myself and others more knowledgeable about the game that paying average players too much would ruin your wage structure. It appears it is now coming home to roost.”

“stella why are you so concerned for rovers?your obviously a duller to go into all that research if its true and what did thier accounts say?you forget in the real world most teams dont get 44m stadiums given to them free of charge i know you dullers try to be clever about our historic club but the truth is the council has done nothing for east hull and has given all the the cash to the west hull clubs and there was me thinking kc was owned by all of hulls residends not just west hulls and then you have the cheek to go on about cr>ap facilities at cp.wanto hammerd same bloke why will we need to offload our high wage earners?salary cap is in place so your talking your useal garbage perhaps your skinflint board should spend yours and compete instead of being in the bottom three hull fc est 1998 fact”

“10,5
Here's 1 just for you.
If your team were about to fold and the rfl offered them a lifeline of merging and getting 1 million for doing it would you rather they fold or take the offer?
I've no problem with whenever FC were formed as I am simply happy I can still support them.”

“Rovers last accounts show debt of £2.4m. Since then they have lost a further £0.9m. Meanwhile FC's 2008 accounts (filed on time) show debt of £1.4m. Hudgell's claim that a lot of other clubs are late in filing their accounts is incorrect. Saints, Leeds, Salford, Wigan, Warrington, Harlequins, Huddersfield, Bradford, Hull FC and Cas have all managed to get their 2008 accounts in. Seemingly only Rovers are affected by "image rights issues".”

“10, 5 and darren.
No matter what NH say that kind of loss is not sustainable. you will offload your high wage earners asap, you finninshed 4th last season and you are suppose to be building on that, No way have you signed anyone good enough to help you do that. You will start losing games and then the bandwagon supporters will stop going. this will mean even bigger loses because of less going through the gates. I can recomend alice in wonderland as a good read because you all believed the fairytale your chairmans just told you.
My name doesn't reflect rovers because it would say, needtoborrowsummut.
ROVER SKINT AND THATS A FACT”

“hammy wantoborrow bloke its obvious rovers were going to lose money to get in sl its a nobrainer now the challenge is to turnover another 600k a year when the recession ends i can see another 200k in sponsership and another 200k in gate recipts if the east stand is finished i think king hudgell is doing a fantastic job i just think the fans have to back the club a little bit more we are not far away if we make a final the loss will be wiped off and we are not far away we just need an investment of a couple of million to take us to the next level hull fc est 1998 fact”
