BEN Fisher believes Hull KR will benefit from facing Crusaders as the Welsh side fight for their play-off lives.

Crusaders must beat Rovers to stand a chance of making the top-eight for the first-ever time.

They are battling against Castleford, who face St Helens at Knowsley Road, for the final place in the knock-out competition.

But with the Crusaders' season hinging on the result at the Racecourse Ground, Fisher says the clash will gear his side up for the high intensity rugby they must deal with in the play-offs.

He told the Mail: "Crusaders are playing for their play-off lives. It's going to be a curtain raiser for our play-off campaign and we are going to have to go into that game with a play-off mentality.

"It's going to be a vigorous game with plenty on the line for both teams."

Fisher is preparing for his second successive crack at the play-offs – and aiming for Rovers' first-ever win in the competition.

Having pushed Wigan close in their last league clash, the 29-year-old believes they can take heart from the display, which they lost 18-38 after leading 18-14.

But the Aussie feels the key to a successful play-off run will be to show the ball more "respect" and not be wasteful in possession.

"Getting ourselves into a position to win the game is a big positive to take from the Wigan defeat," explained the hooker.

"We were our own worst enemy in the first half as we didn't respect the ball enough. You cannot do that against class outfits like Wigan. They will make any team pay for it and we did pay in the first half.

"After getting ourselves in front we fell by the wayside a little bit. We are disappointed we didn't close out the game and we need to work on that.

"We are normally quite good as closing games out, but that's something we need to address over the next few weeks."

“Despite Fisher's attempt to put a positive spin on things, this is actually a very awkward game for Rovers, playing away from home against a team that's performed better than expected this season. To make matters worse, Crusaders have everything to play for whilst Rovers will stay in 7th regardless of the result. Obviously Morgan won't want to go into the play-offs fresh from a defeat, especially if he's played his full-strength side. Under different circumstances, I imagine that he'd rest Dobson and a few other key players, to ensure that they are fresh and injury-free for the play-offs. It would also reduce the damage to Rovers' confidence if they get beat having fielded an under-strength side. However, with the cup final taking place last week, it would mean that any player rested would go into the play-offs not having played for 3 weeks - hardly the ideal preparation.”

“how would it benefit hull fc to merge with the dobbins as you can only spend 1.6m on players which both say they do you would just end up with one team, hull fc would be exactly in the same boat it would only benefit rovers as they would move to the kc and wipe out all their debts and lose their identity and as for fans you would lose more than you gain so tell us how it would benefit rugby in this city”
