Head aims to turn scandal school around
A NEW headteacher has been appointed at a school rocked by a series of sex scandals.
Headlands School And Community Science College, Bridlington, is looking to leave its past troubles behind under the leadership of new head Scott Ratheram.

Scott Ratheram has been appointed headteacher at Bridlington Headlands School. With him are students, from left, Nicola Holgate, Rob Tindall, Sarah Dee, all sixteen, Naomi Clifton and Emma Matinson, both thirteen.
Mr Ratheram, who has been the acting headteacher at Headlands, recently guided the town secondary out of special measures.
He has now secured the headship post permanently from a shortlist of candidates who were put through rigorous interviews by a panel including student representatives.
Mr Ratheram told students he aims to ensure they have a school they can be justifiably proud of.
The appointment follows the jailing of a fifth member of staff from the secondary to be involved in a sex scandal with a pupil.
Teaching assistant Christopher Reen, 32, was recently jailed for three years and four months for having an affair with a 15-year-old pupil.
The headteacher's post was advertised at a salary of £80,389-£93,072.
Mr Ratheram said: "We have made great strides in the last 18 months and the staff here are committed to working with the students, parents, governors and community to meet the challenges that remain, ensuring that Headlands School becomes a good and then outstanding school in the near future."

“I think Mr Ratheram looks very relaxed and at ease, sat amongst those young girls in their school uniform.”

“Scotts an excellent teacher he'll do a good job of turning the school around. My Husband used to work with him and he's a very decent bloke..
Eve, don't tar all teachers with the same brush. I think you'll find a very small majority end up doing such immoral acts.
Unfortunately Headlands have had their fair share of them!”

“Lets hope that the recruitment panel have done the safer recruitment training and they've not appointed another member of staff who will be making headlines for inappropriate behaviour with children.”
