CAVE Castle's Simon Heard has dipped under the 60 mark for the second time in just three Hull & District Golfing Association meetings.

In the opening meeting of the new season at Sutton Park, Heard partnered club-mate Andy Paxton to shoot a winning twelve-under-par 59.

And lightening struck twice for Heard when he was partnering fellow Cave Castle member John Cook at their home club, returning a thirteen-under-par total of 59, beating a quality field to win by four shots.

It would easily have been three consecutive victories for Heard, but in the intervening Hull & District event at Springhead Park he and club colleague Mark Puckering (3) just ran out of steam and had to settle fourth place on 62, one shot behind the winners.

Speaking about his most recent success, Heard said: "Obviously, home advantage helps and we both sank some good putts.

"It was the first time John and myself had played together in a Hull & District event, but we both play off a sixteen handicap so we had plenty of shots to play with and we fitted well as a pair.

"I got a birdie three at the first that got us off to a great start and after that we just played really steady golf, not making any major mistakes and with our shot allowance we did not drop any shots to par.

"On the back nine, John chipped in on the 15th for a nett eagle and he had another nett eagle on the last hole when he hit a superb drive that left him only 81 yards for his second, which he knocked close.

"The greens were in super condition and it was a pleasure to putt on them."

On each occasion in the first three events, Heard has provided the counting score for Cave Castle in the Victor Hurdle and as a consequence has set a scorching pace.

The club currently head the standings (180) by nine shots from Hessle (189) with Beverley & ER, Hainsworth Park and Hornsea one shot further back in third.

The next Hull & District event is at Ganstead Park on Thursday, October 18
