Opera singer Amy Black, from Hedon, has died.

It has been reported the singer’s body was discovered in Keyingham yesterday morning.

As first reported on the Mail’s website, police were called to the scene at 7.55am after the body of a 36-year-old woman was found near Mill Nurseries, Main Street, in the village, near Hedon.

A post mortem was due to take place last night to establish how she died and police have refused to speculate as to the cause of death.

The mezzo-soprano found out last year she had a heart problem.

Tests revealed Amy had a bicuspid aortic heart valve, meaning the valve that pumps blood away from the heart has only two holes instead of the usual three.

Earlier this year, she underwent an operation to deal with the problem.

And just last month she made an emotional return to the stage in Beverley.

During her career Amy made numerous appearances at the popular Classics in the Park event, held at Brantingham.

“In a sudden death, the police will notify next of kin - and ask them if details can be released to the media - hence some people's deaths we just don't hear about, and others it will be released to various forms of media.

I can imagine that for this lady's family it would be just too huge a task at this moment in time to be trying to contact so many people as this lady is known publicly...and why should they if it can be released as a press statement?
There's always one person who gets in a twist 'why wasn't I informed'... as others have said on here, let the family do it their own way, and to grieve in their own way.

A sad loss to everyone who knew her. :(”

“It was her parents decision to let the media know of this tragedy. Most likely to save them the agony of having to let people know themselves. At the end of the day Amy was known and loved by a lot of people, myself included. As one of lifes decent people she will be sadly missed. Lets not turn this tragedy into an argument. her parents did what they thought best.”
