Hedon residents fight homes plan
RESIDENTS in an area of Hedon are preparing to fight plans to build council houses on open land near their homes.
They say the East Riding Council scheme in Cloeberry Way should be rejected because of concerns over future flooding in the area.

Residents of Drapers Lane and Cloeberry Way, Hedon, are unhappy at plans for housing on a car park used by locals. Front, from left, Carol Weeding, Malcolm Bucknall and Marion Withers.
The council wants to build three properties on the land, part of which is currently used as a car park.
The scheme is part of the council's £40m housebuilding programme, that aims to deliver more than 300 new affordable homes across the county.
But residents have signed a petition against the plans and are preparing to lobby councillors on the authority's eastern area planning committee on Monday, when they meet to decide on the application.
Mrs Carol Weeding, who lives next to the site in Cloeberry Way, said: "This area was flooded quite badly in 2007 and it doesn't need any more houses.
"Losing the car parking space is bad enough, but our main concern is the flood risk.
"They are talking about building these new houses at a higher level because of the floods, but that will only mean more risk for the existing houses."
The land lies directly next to Westlands Drain, but in a submission to next week's committee, the council says surface water run-off from the site will be retained and then released at an agreed run-off rate using a specially-designed drainage system.
Council planning officers are recommending approval for the scheme, which originally featured four dwellings.
