THEY are strong words from "Gentleman" Johnny Whiteley, a man whose respect throughout the sporting community in Hull is beyond question.

Mr Whitely's disappointment and dismay after discovering pictures celebrating his and Hull FC's history had been removed from the KC Stadium has struck a chord with many.

Those who run the KC, the Stadium Management Committee, even took down pictures of Mr Whiteley in the suite bearing his own name, replacing them with Hull City photos.

The SMC, effectively controlled by Hull City owner Assam Allam, argues that it did so because Hull FC did not pay the bill it charges for hosting such displays of memorabilia.

Could this have been avoided? Yes, and lasting damage still can be.

The council needs to look again at why it lost any public influence over the operation of a stadium built with public money for the people of Hull.

The Allams meanwhile are sporting fans and understand the passion of the city.

Perhaps they could be persuaded to restore Mr Whitely and a few other iconic moments.

There may well be issues here but history is an innocent victim. This city needs all it can to shout about.

“The reason the SMC is owned by Hull Citys owners, (whoever it happens to be) and has responsibility for running the KC and not the council, its because that was the deal made by Adam Pearson and the council when the stadium was built, Hull FC where given the choice of joint ownership of the SMC but declined to make any investment. Adam Pearson set up the SMC to favour Hull City because he owned Hull City at the time. The fact that previous owners have been slack in the running of the SMC is down to the previous owners.”

“The Allams clearly do not understand the passion of the city, or have interest in our history. As for the SMC management thinking this was a reasonable course of action to take should worry the council and get them to look again about what influence they should have in the running of 'community' stadium !”
