WINGER Dave Hodgson has praised fellow Hull KR flier Alex Brown for how quickly he has settled into his stride.

Whilst Hodgson took 11 games to score his first four Super League tries, Brown took a game and a half.

But having worked together at Huddersfield, Hodgson isn't surprised by how well Brown has taken his chance at Rovers.

"Alex is going very well," Hodgson told the Mail.

"That's good to see because he is a good lad, like a lot of the lads at the club at the minute.

"He was on the fringes at Huddersfield and didn't really get his chance.

"But Alex is a strong explosive player which is what you need for a winger.

"I'm not surprised he's started well like this. I always knew he would take his chance when he got it."

Few wingers know more about taking chances than Hodgson.

The 31-year-old needs one more try to become the fourth leading try scorer in Super League's all-time list.

A try at Odsal will take him to 158, alongside Catalan's Leon Pryce but 43 behind Danny McGuire before this weekend's games.

But Hodgson has played down his part in crossing for almost 160 tries in a career that started with Halifax in 1999.

"Everybody keeps talking about my next try, but I think they have cursed me and I won't get it," he added.

"I have a way to go to catch Danny and he's a couple of years younger than me.

"I couldn't have imagined being fourth on the all-time list when I first started playing as a 16-year-old.

"It's about being in good teams and I've been lucky to play in a number of good teams over the years.

"I've had a lot of opportunities to score tries and I've taken them."

Looking ahead to tomorrow's game, Hodgson believes it has the potential to be an entertaining affair against a Bradford riding high after putting their financial woes of last season well and truly behind them.

"We have to be on our game," he added. "We beat one of the form teams in Warrington and we got a good win at London too, which is difficult.

"Odsal is a tough place to go to too. But everyone is confident of getting the job done."

“Dr SlaIm mer, I BEL13VE you are right! His imposture as Rovers fan has a similar style.

Strangely enough we haven't heard from Mike since Forest posted his photo on the Forum. He was very indiscreet and gave out his real name in a post. Can't blame Mike for changing his user profile, he shows a marked resemblance to Uncle Fester.

    BEL13VE

“BenyStol yes, once again you are right.

Once again, the wheels came off our wagon well and truly this evening. I wish I wasn't so gullible, I would never have bought a season pass if I had known.”

“Brown is just another journeyman bought on the cheap by Hudgell, the wheels will come off shortly.”

“I wonder what it would be like to have Ben Cockayne in your ranks this season, the kids on fire.
He was Rovers through and through and would never had left the club.
His call up in to the England set up is well deserved with the form he is showing.”

“prioryred., what impresses me even more about Alex is his yardage when he is first receiver - he is like a forward and the opposition don't like it. I read on the RLFans forum a suggestion to drop Alex, tbh it was a good debate but I also favour the saying 'if it aint broken then don't fix it! '

On Disco Dave Hodgson, when Rovers signed him we got the usual drivel (too old, not fast enough, can't defend) but he has been brilliant in my book, and his partnership with Welham is as lethal as any in SL. Disco will reach double figures again this season, and IMO the try he scored against the darksiders at the Etihad is worth his entry into Rovers Hall of Fame.”

“Alex demonstrated his capabilities against Warrington and London. He is not afraid to take on the opposition and can defend too. He still has a lot to learn but the lad has a bright future ahead of him.

    A very astute signing.”
