THE Bridlington area action plan could see up to £160m spent on regeneration projects in the town.

This includes a marina, blueprints for a new shopping district, extended town centre parking and the remodelling of the Gypsey Race area.

It could lead to the creation of more than 1,900 jobs.

After a public inquiry, planning inspector Sian Worden last year backed a proposed marina in the harbour and the creation of a new shopping and residential district in the town centre.

She rejected the council's plans for a harbour top, which would have seen buildings and facilities currently used by fishermen being cleared to make way for a hotel, apartments and upmarket cafés.

The last date to raise objections to the secretary of state is next Wednesday.

If there are no objections, the council is free to adopt the policy.
