Hornsea residents to be given say on community centre
Hornsea residents are to be given a first glimpse of plans to transform a church hall into a community centre.
Under plans, £500,000 will be spent transforming the town's Methodist Church, in Newbigin.

WE'RE LISTENING: From left, Councillors Jean and Angus Robinson, Mayor John Miller, Cllr John Ellerby and town clerk Colin O'Connor outside the old Hornsea Methodist Hall in Newbegin, Hornsea.
A public consultation will be held on Friday and Saturday from 10am to 3pm at the church.
The Mail understands the plans include the creation of a multi-purpose function room and a meeting chamber for the town council.
Community groups in the town would also benefit from a kitchen.
Colin O'Connor, Hornsea Town Council clerk, hopes residents will be out in force, to have their say on the proposed plans.
He said: "This is the people's community centre and will be there for the next 100 years, so we want to know what people think and what they want in the facility.
"In the multi-purpose function room, we plan on having retractable seating. The room could be used by everyone from the local Army cadets, Red Cross to people attending wedding receptions."
Hull-based architects Gelder and Kitchen were appointed to design the conversion last month.
Funding for the project will come from a public works loan over 25 years.
Mr O'Connor said: "This is an exciting project for Hornsea, which will bring the council into the heart of the town, raising its profile.
"I hope people will come in, have a look and have their say on the plans on Friday and Saturday."

“Don't forget your mayor John Miller objected i nthe strongest terms to the eye sore of council flats being built near to the seafront, as it will spoil Hornsea. He doesn't want council flats to spoil the view. So make sure he listens about the plans for the new community centre. Make sure it does not detract, or put people off from visiting our quality trades people in Newbegin. Make sure the character of this part of Hornsea is looked after and not just the Mayor's views of the sea. Get the council to listen more and explain themselves more. ( If they are kept busy they won't be able to get up to much mischief like planning new developments and huge buildings in Newbegin. Hopefully busy little B's will be good little B's !)”

“This is a great idea to give us a say and keep us informed, now can the council also tell us of any plans for social house building on the South Promenade along with bids made and accepted for funding to build such, and can clr. Jefferson clarify if another 4 houses are to be built on Trinty Road or is it another 3 as stated on HCA website.”
