HORNSEA produced their finest display of the season in Yorkshire Division Four, disposing of a hard working Adwick side by 34-16.

Adwick opened the scoring after just four minutes with a well struck penalty following Hornsea being penalised at the breakdown.

Hornsea soon clicked into gear shortly after this and took the lead with a try from centre Steve Crook.

The Hornsea forwards worked the ball to the Adwick 22 and when the ball reached the backs a slick pass by Matt Traves put Crook away who carved through the Adwick defence to score under the posts, Ryan Hunter converted.

Hornsea increased their lead five minutes later through a try for right wing Mark Thomas. The Hornsea front row of Nick Butteril, Nick Voase and Rich Scott drove the ball upfield, it was then given to the backs and with some crisp handling by Adam Mclatchie and Tom Copeland put Thomas away who outpaced his opposite man and scored a well taken try in the corner.

Hornsea's leading try scorer Dave Hildreth got on the scoresheet following some good interplay by the Hornsea backs which saw Hildreth on the end of it who glided his way to the line to score.

Adwick reduced the deficit with another well struck penalty on the half hour mark, but Hornsea had the final say of the half, with a try for lock forward Tom Dawson, his first for the club.

Karl Forbes and Richard Pooley won the ball for Hornsea and then Dawson broke away from the back of the ruck and galloped 20 yards through two would be tacklers to score under the posts, Hunter converted.

The second half was a more even affair with Adwick scoring two close range tries early on, but Hornsea hit back with a penalty by Ryan Hunter to make the score 27-16 in Hornsea's favour.

Hornsea extended their lead with a try from number eight Rob Porter who had put in a hard working display at the back of the Hornsea scrum.

Jack Backhouse won the ball in the lineout, which himself and Dawson did well at all afternoon, and as Hornsea drove the ball towards the try line Porter peeled away and crashed over the line, as Nick Butteril had pulled two defenders away with a fine dummy run, Hunter converted.

Hornsea deservedly came out on top in this encounter with all 18 men playing their part, next week sees the Hollismen travel to Old Grovians where they will be looking to carry on where they left off.
