Hull FC couldn't hold on to a second-half lead as Huddersfield Giants took the spoils at the John Smith's Stadium.

Hull came from behind to lead thanks to a much-improved performance but didn't get their rewards as their hosts hit them with 18 points in the final 20 minutes.

Huddersfield had the better of the early exchanges and opened the scoring on 19 minutes when Shaun Lunt went from dummy-half and left Ben Galea and Chris Green flat-footed.

The visitors found themselves coming under increased pressure but held firm before wrestling the advantage back in their favour.

Enjoying a first foray toward the Giants' try line, the Black and Whites hit back as Ben Galea took a pass from Danny Houghton before bundling his way over the try line.

Daniel Holdsworth missed a simple conversion to leave Hull trailing at half-time, but within five minutes of the re-start the visitors were in front.

Holdsworth's flicked pass inside set Shannon McDonnell on his way and when he kicked behind the Giants' defence, Ben Crooks was perfectly placed to touch down the loose ball.

The Giants regained the lead thanks to Aaron Murphy's converted try in the corner, but there was a touch of controversy with Joe Wardle's flick on to Murphy appearing forward.

Hull's frustration only intensified when first Wardle scored on the break after a forward pass that was missed, then Danny Brough converted a penalty to put the hosts eight points clear.

With the game won, Scott Grix crossed over in the last minute to give the scoreline an unfair reflection.

“What I don't understand about us and I have said this before is that we have many forwards capable of offloading but don't do it. We look clueless near the line and a simple out the back ball would just add that extra option. We did it twice last night (Whiting), one led to a try and the other a significant movement down field.

Our forwards are not going to out-muscle teams as they aren't big enough but why not play to their strengths? Other teams are always in the game because we simply don't score enough to put them under pressure. We can moan all season about not having a scrum half but we have to get on with it. The scrum half we have has built his game off support play so why not try playing our own game and not one from a text book.

In my opinion we lost the game when we didn't take the 2 and level the scores. There is a significant psychological difference in a tight game, in wet conditions being level than being behind especially against a big inform side. While you are behind you have to press and this causes mistakes which we saw last night.

Next week is a huge test of character for us. London are poor but we have played worse London sides away and lost.”

“First ..calling for Gentle's head is way over the top. Gentle , Pearson ,the fans and the rest of Sl know Fc are in dire need of a half back who can steer the team.Pearson ect tried to get one and failed but it was not through lack of trying.Until we get someone with flair we will not get very far.You can not fault the effort at all and the defense last night was great, going forward was poor to say the least. The team look clueless in attack .Holdsworth looked out of sorts last night and did nothing ,he did not look fit.Houghton was the MOM by a street and most the side played well the two wingers were great.Horne has lost that yard of pace and a couple of times last night made good breaks but did not have the pace to make it count.Would have liked a win but far from being worried yet.”

“at least two of the huddersfield tries were plainly scored with forward passes, and were more easily to observe than than briscoes score, unusually observed by the judge on the opposite side of the field, two good defences, slowed the game down, but everyone involved with sky thought it was a good entertaining match, from two good teams.”

“archieboden,i believe gentles in the process of building a very good team,we all know he hasnt yet brought in the players that he wants, but lets see now,oh yes they wernt available were they now, this is season 1 of his rebuilding, and hes bringing the the young guys into the fold to boot, they will be there next season we havnt yet go the leader required to take the team forward but that will come with those editions when available, trust in pearson, just as hull city trusted in him, when he bought that club.”

“I'm a Rovers supporter and to be honest I thought last nights game was a good game to watch for the true rugby league supporters. So did the Sky pundints, I thought HFC played very well for the first 50/60 minutes and after that, did'nt get the rub of the green, IMO......!

There is one consulation for the FC fans, and a good gauge to how their team performed and that was written on the face of the Huddersfield coach when the final hooter went..! It was sheer relief. I think HFC will put a cricket score on the London Broncos next week and then the Derby, they'll but up for that for sure.......!”

“ricksinn your correct it was not a free flowing game mainly due to the ref allowing so much holding down, apart from that he did ok .hope we dont get bentham for the derby ,silverwood would make it a better watch.”

“It looks like FC just don't like the sky cameras, Personally I thought that was quite a dull game and the result could have gone either way, Don't think you got much from the ref and if Biscoes try had been given then the momentum would have been Hulls going into the last 10. If some of the players played with the determination and passion that Danny Houghton has you would be a top 4 side, I do think there are some players who feel have a given right to be picked week in week out. I would blood 6 youngsters next week against London just as a wake up call for some of the plodders.
Last week I posted that all Hull clubs won and this week so far all have lost, tough game for the Robins today but don't be surprised if they spring a win as they have good momentum going into the game and confidence appear sky high, lets hope its not a loss for all 3 clubs over the weekend.
    Rally Round the Robins.”

“As a Rovers fan Hudds were fortunate to win the game with a very poor performance. Blatant forward pass for one try, and I thought McDonnell had taken the ball over the line and it shouldn't have been a drop out before the last try. However, that still doesn't alter the fact that Hull's attack is clueless. They simply don't score enough points. I agree with the poster who said it was like Another Bloody Sunday. Dour stuff. Not like watching the mighty Hull Kingston 'Harlem Globetrotters' Rovers. We can't tackle but its champagne rugby all the way. COYR”

“Same old Hull no creativity in attack whatsoever Gentle always refers to his default saying that we had some players busted going into the game thats poor management a group of very expensive underperforming players poor B3LEIVE you are having a laugh”
