"We love coming to Hull and the City Hall is a beautiful venue. It provides the perfect backdrop to shop and people can pick up some real treats for their wardrobe.

"In the past we have held two fairs at the Guildhall, which have attracted about 1,000 people.

"Being in the City Hall, it's more central. It's a popular venue and because it's one big open space the atmosphere will be brilliant.

"We will have a few early pieces but there will be a lot of later vintage clothing, right up until the 1990s.

"Gothic outfits and velvet dresses in dark shades are very popular from the grunge era."

Lou Lou, of Sheffield, said the event is for both men and women, with plenty of clothing on offer.

The Vintage Fair regularly hosts events at 30 major cities across the UK including London, Newcastle and Liverpool.

About 50 per cent of traders on the day will be from East Yorkshire, with the likes of New Vintage Clothing Company and For The Love Of Kitsch taking part.

Dancers will also provide entertainment for shoppers and Miss Poppy's, of South Cave, will be brewing up a treat with a tea party.

Owner Fiona Neve said: "I've had the business for about three months and things are going really well.

"Vintage fairs are massive at the moment and people have been booking us for weddings and christenings.

"We offer home-made cakes and finger sandwiches and the tea party features beautiful china.

"Normally we would have to travel to the likes of Leeds for a fair of this size – it's the largest to be held in Hull."

Fiona also runs Olde English Furniture in South Cave, which sells everything from Chesterfield leather sofas to old-fashioned record players.

She said: "Plenty of people will attend The Vintage Fair and it's great for the economy, with lots of stalls. We're really looking forward to taking part."

There will also be a chance for fashion enthusiasts to replenish their wardrobes when the fair returns to the City Hall on Saturday, November 3.

This Saturday's event will run from noon to 5pm. Entry costs £1.
