Hull City: Ahmed Elmohamady recall is option, says Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill
SUNDERLAND boss Martin O'Neill has cast doubt over the future of Ahmed Elmohamady by raising the prospect of recalling the Egyptian from his Hull City loan spell this month.
Although injury will rule him out of today's FA Cup clash with Orient, Elmohamady has been instrumental in City's promotion bid since signing on a season-long loan in August.
A January recall option is available to Sunderland and, after agreeing to the £1.5m sale of David Meyler to the Tigers this week, O'Neill admits Elmohamady's situation is unclear.
Sources on Wearside suggest a recall would only be a last resort for the Black Cats this month, but O'Neill's words will not be enjoyed by counterpart Steve Bruce.

"It might be that if we have been unable to add the players I was hoping to add in this window, then we might have to recall Elmohamady," said O'Neill.
"As far as his position is concerned, we have an opportunity – a bit like the one with Danny Rose, Tottenham and us – where we have a clause which means we can call him back this month if we want to.
"Hull keeping Elmohamady long-term is something that has not been discussed up to this point between ourselves and them.
"But we have raised the point with them that if we can't get players in, he might have to return."
