Hull City Council most improved in country
Hull City Council has been named the most improved council in the country.
The authority picked up the accolade at the Local Government Chronicle awards ceremony in London last night.
-
Reductions in litter, fly-posting and graffiti, a drop in the level of crime and improvements in education were cited as some of the reasons for the award.
City council leader Carl Minns said: "We won't rest on our laurels.
"We are ambitious and will continue to focus on delivering the best for residents – and even more improvements in the coming year."

“Well with Dodgy Colin away from any position of responsibility, Hull CC was always going to improve.”

“So who is responsible for poor education standards in the city? Parents or the Council?
As far as Councils go they are average, but then we only pay average money for them, and lots in Hull dont even pay!”

“If you thought the Hull City council was bad, try living in the e riding and being run by the incompetent bunch at county hall.
Services and amenitied never ever improve and the council tax bills have rocketed over the years, with an increase again this year despite the recession.
Councillors expenses seem to be the only thing that is recession proof”

“Makes me feel sick with anger how these autocratic council people can pat them self¿s on the back when so much needs fixing in this city. Hope they had a nice night on the Joe Public and maybe someone will get elected soon who might take on the real issues e.g. Education! I hope that these people will see how sickening it is from the public¿s point of view and stop congratulating themselves on been one of the best worst improved councils! What a joke! Whatever next ..Minns for president !!!”

“I hope we are the winners, but Rob, can you explain why I keep getting a Lib \ Dem leaflet every 2 weeks telling me I should be worried because the current Government have been responsible for an increase in crime throughout the City”

“Errm, actually, they beat four other councils to take the 'Most Improved' award.
Why some folks begrudge giving a little credit, where it's finally due, I really don't know...”

“This is a good thing although there is obviously a very long way to go . Well done to the council , pity our local MP's haven't done anything for the city”

“Were they really that bad, because they are not that good at the moment?
As the saying goes, 'You can only go up when your bottom'”

“Noted some of the comments on here so did some digging.
The awards are judged by other councils as part of some sort of peer review and does not rely on statistics, the judges actually visit the city to inspect it and the work HCC do.
Some of those in the picture have got nowt to do with HCC, 1 1 presented the award and 1 was the sponsor. Cost of travel would be picked up by the relevant HCC Budget and due to large discounts given to Civil Service and Local Govt won't have cost that much.
Just a thought but as a former sportsman if at the annual awards you won "most improved" it meant you were rubbish the previous season, it's the award no one wants!!”

“Probably now using the government approved dodgy statistic technique.”
