He told the Sunderland Echo: "We have important games coming up, a League Cup match coming up and he has had a game or two now which, in terms of fitness, has helped enormously."
However, it appears the door may still be open to a possible loan deal later in the season.
O'Neill added: "He [Meyler] wouldn’t be averse to doing anything just to get games and if it’s games he needs in a while, we will see."

“My brother inlaw is a mackam and big Black Cats supporter and he says that Meyler is nothing special and compares him to a poor mans Lee Catermole. So dont think he is such a loss TBH.”

“Fraizer Campbell has to be the big one. Successful strikers are a rare breed. He would make the difference here if a sensible deal can be struck.”

“If and I mean IF we really do need some mdfield improvement then I don't think we could go far wrong in going for Jason Koumas (currently training with Sheffield Wednesday), re-uniting him with Robert Koren too. Koumas is a skillful player, comfortable in possesion and scores goals.”
