HULL City remain in hot pursuit of Egyptian international striker Gedo as they seek to bring in a new goal-scorer ahead of the transfer window closing tomorrow.

The Mail understands talks over a loan deal for the 26-year-old have advanced over the past week, as attempts to bring in QPR hit-man DJ Campbell have hit problems.

Now, sources say talks with Gedo’s club, Al Ahly, have reached an advanced stage, with the deal depending on the Egyptian giants giving the move their seal of approval today.

Should that happen, City could still face a race against time to secure the paperwork needed to complete the transfer before tomorrow’s deadline.

However, with talks now thought to have been held at boardroom level, a move to the KC Stadium for the talented frontman is now looking a distinct possibility.

The news comes as City’s hopes of bringing in another top target, QPR’s DJ Campbell, appeared to have hit a wall.

The Tigers remain one of a host of clubs still chasing the 31-year-old’s signature, but with the player keen to secure a lucrative three-and-a-half-year deal, City appear unwilling to meet his demands.

Sources say City would be willing to agree a two-and-a-half-year deal, but that is an offer which will be matched by a string of rivals, with Crystal Palace, Watford and Ipswich all believed to remain in the chase.

Tigers boss Steve Bruce has endured a frustrating month so far in his bid to add a proven goalscorer who can lead his side’s push for promotion.

Despite being willing to meet a fee of £600,000, City lost out in their bid to bring initial target Fraizer Campbell back to the KC, as the former Sunderland man agreed a three-and-a-half-year deal on £30,000 a week at Cardiff.

Having spent £3.5m in the window already by turning loans for Robbie Brady and David Meyler into permanent moves, owners Assem and Ehab Allam have already agreed to bring some of their planned budget for next summer forward.

With that in mind, Bruce will be aware a loan deal for a player such as Gedo, who has a proven track record of goals and won the Golden Boot in his country’s African Cup of Nations triumph in 2010, is one which should win support from the City boardroom.

The Tigers’ Egyptian-born owner Assem Allam has already developed strong links with Al Ahly.

It has seen him agree to welcome the Cairo-based club to the KC Stadium for a fund-raising friendly this summer, as part of City’s pre-season plans for next season.

Allam’s ownership of the Tigers, and Bruce’s track record of successfully bringing Egyptian players to the UK, could also work in City’s favour as they look to conclude a deal.

“The Egyptian striker we had on loan in the Premier League was Zaki, Wigan gave him the push after he didn't bother to return on time from a trip to Egypt. He started off with a bang for Wigan and scored some cracking goals but I believe that by the time we signed him he had become seriously addicted to pork pies and had started to resemble a large Melton Mowbray in shorts! Sounds as if Wolves might have rejected our bid for Ebanks Blake because Birmingham rejected theirs for Marlon King.”

    “well Wezzy

    thanks for that
let's agree that in football terms Egypt have been quite good judging by their record in the ACN.

It seems less third world by football standards”

“Dave in Leeds, as much as i like to agree with people on the point of Egypty not been a third world country i disagree. Although a lot more wealth is coming into the country it is still regarded by the worlds top powers as a third world country. People only see the main parts when they go on their jollies. But most of Cairo is worse than the slums in Bombay. But for th pyramids and the Nile river i dare say nobody would entertain Cairo. Other than that Port Said, Alexandria, Luxor, and Sharm, I srtuggle to think of anywhere in Egypt that represents anything like the civilisation we recognise. I could be wrong. Even Egyptian people recognise that they are still a third world country which had light at the end of the tunnel until all the recent upheaval. On the flip side of that. Class dismissed.”

“A bit of good news for a change.Players who actually want to play for the club,
Whether they make the grade we dont know but on a 6 month loan defineately worth the gamble.
We need a good scout in Spain. So much potential for grabs.Plus players who can actually play football.”
