"I've been thinking about doing it for a while," he told the Mail.

"It will give the kids a chance to express themselves in a friendly environment and parents can rest assured they will be well looked after.

"There may be one or two from the group that could surprise us and go on to be stars. But the important thing from my point of view is that the kids enjoy their time there.

"I'll have a smile on my face and I want them to do the same."

Windass has worked closely with Karen Arundel and Ken Fellows to set up his Soccer School, with the first training sessions to be held on pitches at Rosmead Street.

If all goes well, the Tigers hero hopes to open further schools in west Hull and Bradford, where he spent six years in two different spells.

As a youngster, Windass learned his skills on park pitches and he wishes he could have benefited from a similar scheme.

However, he feels it's important to do everything possible to help give the next generation the best chance of making it as a footballer.

"The FA are trying to improve grassroots football," he said. "I want to do my own little bit and I believe it will be very beneficial to the kids and parents.

"It will get them off the streets and playing football and keep them fit, which is what we all want.

"Football camps like these can do so much more than just develop a child's football skills.

"It can also improve their discipline.

"This is something I really believe in and hope it pays dividends in the long run."

Everyone who attends the school will be rewarded with medals at a Presentation Night on April 11.

The first Dean Windass Soccer School is available to boys and girls aged from 7 to 14. Prices start at £15 for a one-day session, £30 for three days and £48 for a five-day camp.

“There has been quite a bit of publicity recently about the emotional difficulties faced by former footballers in retirement. Deano has suffered from this to a very great extent. He is trying to put his life in order and in the process use his skills and experience to help others. Great idea you would think, I certainly do.

Maccy-George, your DISGRACEFUL comments say more about you than Deano. It's always easy to criticise others. What have you done for others?”

“lol, it looks like maccy_george has got all his Deano hating cronies to fire up the red arrows, how sad some people are eh!

We all make mistakes in life, but how many of us will score a play off winning goal at Wembley for our home town club? No end of jealousy, or a million red arrows, can take away from that iconic achievement!”

    “Maccy_George

What a complete mug you are.

I'm an FC fan and its a great idea.

Of course you being whiter than white and never having done a thing wrong in your life, or made any mistakes does enable you to make such comments, plus of course all the good you have put back into society........

I'm sure the vast majority will agree you are a cretin of the highest order, which is mild to compared what I would have liked to put.”

    “Brian Hughes eh?
Quality player he was in his day.
Good to see Deanno getting involved, though its a shame he can't be accommodated at City.
I recall being secreted in the away end at Scunny a few years back on our way up.
The locals were singing merrily always **** on the north side of the bridge as per usual when Deanno absolutely buried one in the back of their net. So powerful was the shot it nearly bust the net. No joking.
"Oh no," I heard one distraught local moan - "anybody but not Hull City."
Feigning short-sightedness, I innocently enquired as to whether the ball had crossed the line. Hehheheheh. There was no answer from the chap next to me. Just a suspicious grimmace. He wa sno mug for a local
Later about thirty other disguised City fans behind began the Tigers chants ut the police decided discretion was the better part of valour.
I enjoyed that goal only slightly less than the Windass Wembley Winner.
Anyway, on the right track Deanno. Hope you can all make a success of it.”

“Great idea Deano, good luck with it.

I hope it goes well for you and Yozzer, and we find another footballer that can score another iconic goal like yours at Wembley for City!”
