Hull City's Oppaa Egyptian style is a big hit back in Cairo - Shafy Mosaad
Shafy Mosaad is a sports journalist in Cairo ...
"Hull City ... Oppaa Egyptian Style", has become one of the most common slogans in Egypt and the Arab world after the extraordinary emergence of Egyptian duo Ahmed Elmohamady and Mohamed nagy Gedo in the championship.
"Oppaa Egyptian Style" refers of course to the world famous song Gangham Style but the Egyptian version is now the official tribute song here to our Egyptian Tigers.
Egyptian fans have adopted Hull City as one of their own. They see the trio of Gedo, Elmo and Ahmed Fathi , and see their passion through different social media networking. And of course there is the owner Assem Allam.

As the Tigers continue to rise, the talk here becomes even more enthusiastic. Two goals for Gedo means he has scored five in six outings since joining the Tigers on loan from Al Ahly in January. Every goal is followed here in Egypt. And suggestions Al Ahly may be willing to sell Gedo for £3million now look like the deal could be a bargain.
And it seems that Elmo was waiting for some Egyptian friends in his team to spark his best performances and establish himself as one of the best goal makers in the championship.
There’s no doubt that Hull City are a team on the rise, and not just because of their league position but the surge in popularity with fans like those in Egypt, a country with 90 million people many who love their football and their home grown football stars.
What may not be known in Hull is the significance of that back home. To many, the Hull City team and its stars are uniting all Egyptian people despite the significant political differences.
In every match that City play now, people in Egypt are desperate to see more goals from Gedo and Elmo and they hope Fathy will soon have a bigger role to play. And as long as they are being passionate about their Tigers, they can forget all their problems for 90 minutes.

“Baz,

Every time we play our rival teams message boards get bombarded with hundreds of message from fanatical Egyptian ' Hull city ' supporters.”

“What i like about the football league is the 'pyramid' system that gives every team its opportunity to progress which is 'pharaoh enough'. But it is now that time of the season when the sphinxster really starts a twitching no matter what division you are in. But at the end of the day if we don't gain promotion then Tut Tut Tut..At least this season we have really sharmed our supporters with some 'luxor'ious football. And when all is 'SAID' and done we deserve promotion which looks well and truelly Niled on with just a bit more endeavour and beautiful football But ye can bet your egyptian dollar we will have the best chance possible with our golden 3. But if we don't then i will seriously be crying for my mummy.”

“Please, please, please, no more 'jokes' about pharoes, mummies, etc!
Great to hear there is so much interest in Egypt for the Tigers, seems like a masterstroke by the Allams to give Egyptian football their support during the recent troubles over there.
Can't complain about us having more matches live on Sky now, this can only be a good thing, Sky are targetting us because we play great attractive football, mostly on the deck,it's good to watch and the attitude seems to be 'we will score more than you' - well now that we've got a couple of decent stikers banging them in!”

“I truly wish I knew more about the politics of Egypt, but I really do hope that Gedo,Elmo and Fathi unite the factions in Egypt.I also sincerely hope that no death sentences are exacted for the Port Said riot.I suspect there will be a few who richly deserve that fate, but rather more who have been framed by The Muslim Brotherhood who want to look tough, and in control.I abhor the death sentence,a conclusion that the British government came to nearly 50 years ago,and I hope Egypt's government follows suit soon.
Beyond that,I hope our Al-Ahly recruits get what they deserve, which is Premier League football next season, because they are a class act,as are our management team and owners. No brown nosing, just facts.”
