ANDY Dawson and Paul McKenna are expected to kick-start their pre-season campaigns when they return to the Hull City fold at Rochdale this afternoon.

Both veterans were forced to sit out the Tigers' opening friendlies against North Ferriby, Winterton and Grimsby Town last week after complaining of minor injuries on the back of rigorous training schedules in Portugal.

Dawson (thigh) and McKenna (groin) have returned to training this week and are expected to get the first minutes under their belt ahead of the new league season three weeks from today.

Their returns are offset by the continued absence of Matty Fryatt and Corry Evans.

Fryatt played in the wins over North Ferriby and Winterton, scoring in both, but has since collected a thigh injury that rules him out of the trip to Spotland.

Evans also featured in a 45-minute run-out against the Villagers, but a hamstring injury is expected to rule him out for another fortnight.

That already makes the Northern Ireland international a doubt for the Championship curtain-raiser against Brighton on August 18.

Seyi Olofinjana (knee) is another unlikely to feature at Rochdale today, but Bruce has seen his squad supplemented by the availability of Ben Amos, Abdoulaye Faye and Sone Aluko.

All three could make their first appearances in City colours today, while Nick Proschwitz is pushing for a start.

• CITY'S youth team are celebrating victory in the Browns LDV Tournament in Portugal. Billy Russell's side beat Celtic's under-20s on penalties following a 0-0 draw to cap a successful training camp on the Algarve.

“Dont you just love all this silly panic over nothing. Far too much being read into very little. Bruce jnr is good cheap squad cover.”

“They was nothing to report really Scarb. Koren stole the show with a powerful 25yarder, Lillis got the ball but it slipped through his hands, Nick missed an open goal sitter but looked sharp and strong. Amos is class and kept us in it.”

“I was thinking that myself Ellie . But by playing hughes and Fagan that's 2 of our players missing out on a game.

I wouldn't be surprised if they don't both get a years contract as a way of adding numbers to our squad.

All the best Ellie n Family x”
