HULL FC's Joe Westerman admits he is "gutted" to be ruled out for up to 12 weeks with a dislocated shoulder.

Westerman injured his shoulder while scoring in Hull's 22-14 win over the London Broncos at the KC Stadium on Sunday.

He was immediately helped from the field, and yesterday's scans revealed the loose-forward needs an operation on Friday to rectify the problem.

The former Castleford Tigers man, who joined Hull FC in 2011, used his Twitter account to inform fans of the scan results after visiting experienced Manchester-based upper limb surgeon Len Funk.

He wrote: "Thanks again for all the messages just got bc from consultant n it looks like 12 weeks have my op on fri: "gutted".

It is a bitter blow for 22-year-old Westerman, who had made a bright start as part of Peter Gentle's new-look Black and Whites.

Gentle will now turn his attentions to replacing the talented England Knights captain, with Martin Apsinwall and Richard Whiting potential candidates.

The Hull coach said: "We are tremendously disappointed for Joe.

"He is a talented player and no doubt a loss to our side, but getting him fit and healthy for the rest of the season is our main priority.

"He has received superb care from our medical staff and the specialists and we'll get him back playing as soon as we can."

He added: "It does mean it opens the door for another squad member to take the opportunity to step up and we'll be looking to see who can do that over the coming weeks. We've talked about competition for places and the door is open for someone to take their chance."

“I agree STEVO is starting to really get on my ****. He get many calls wrong even after scrutenizing replays. Its time they farmed him out back to OZ. I don't understand why Sky need around 7 commentators, coaches and ****sists for each game. You can happily loose Stevo, J Wells and Bill and still have a over scrutanized commentary team. Everybody is trying to cut costs, so should Sky”

    “Ches I don't blame you,if I had the mis-fortune to have a Rovers shirt I'd bury it as well.PMSL.
What a pity Mika and the rest of Rovers forwards can't tackle,in their three games Rovers have leaked an average of 27.33 per game,I bet Warrington are wetting themselves with fear.
Sands has got to work a lot harder on our defence,he doesn't seem to have a defence strategy. The trouble is that we have too many players who don't hold the line and don't have a clue how to tackle,Welham,Hall and Lovegrove are the worst offenders. We can't go on conceding this amount of points,as some one said yesterday,it was like watching touch rugby.”

“also anyone getting more and more annoyed with stevo on sky more than usual at the start of this season. Just 1 of many that have irked me was his comment about westerman when he was clearly injured i quote " oh it looks like he has TWINGED his shoulder he should be ok " *** does he know as the paper said yesterday they are portrayed as northern caricatures to the media in the south and its becoming embarrassing time for clarky and carney to take over”

“Not the news we wanted but these things happen & get well soon Joe.
This would be a great opportunity for Rich Whiting & I think he would do a solid job in Westy's absence.”

“Sorry to see any player suffer an injury as brid says speedy recovery to all injured players of all teams unlike eddy who thinks its funny.
Fudge. Still getting your inside info from the beano are you,try the dandy instead.! Dobbo was almost fit this week and its just a case of whether sandy thinks its worth playing him against warry or not.For me I would save him for the home matches against widnes and bradford. If we win those two games we have 7 points out of 12 and bearing in mind we have played 3 of the top 4,two of them away thats a pretty good return considering the injury situation.!”
