Hull FC: No complaints over Sam Moa ban for shoulder charge on London's Julien Rinaldi
HULL FC's director of rugby Shaun McRae says he has no complaints over Sam Moa's one-match ban.
The Black and Whites prop was sent off at home to London on Sunday and yesterday was found guilty of making a dangerous shoulder charge on Julien Rinaldi by an RFL Disciplinary Committee.

Although disappointed with the outcome, McRae said it had been a fair hearing for the club and the player.
"We are disappointed with the outcome, and whilst it is not one I agree with, we can have no complaints," McRae told the Mail.
"We thought we had a strong case to present to the committee as we believed the initial contact had not been with the head but had been on the shoulder.
"We hoped that we would be able to show that on the videos and bring it down to a charge of being careless and not reckless, but unfortunately the committee stuck with the charge."
Despite opinions varying throughout the game over the legality of shoulder charges like the one made by Moa, McRae is not convinced they should be banned to bring greater clarity over rules.
"The other rugby code has banned them so it is very clear in that sport, if you do it you have broken the rules," McRae said.
"In our sport it remains a legal challenge, like any other tackle, and I have no strong opinion on whether it should be stopped.
"It is a fair challenge unless you mistime it and it becomes dangerous. That is only the same as a player running with the ball and raising their arm to the defender.
"Of course, a big shoulder charge like Sam's, where two players come together in a collision, looks great at times.
"I am not a big fan of it as a defensive weapon, but we wouldn't stop our players from using it as it is a decision made on the spot and in the situation."
The ban means Moa will miss Friday night's trip to face Salford.
FC would be able to launch an appeal against the decision today if they wished, but McRae said that was unlikely.
"I can't see us appealing. It was a fair hearing, they listened to our mitigation but at the end of the day it is all about opinions and interpretations," McRae added.
FORMER FC player Tommy Lee, now at Huddersfield Giants, has been suspended for two matches following his high tackle on Warrington's Lee Briers on Saturday.

“I am a red. Thought I'd get that out there. Sam Moa needed to be dealt with there and then after the shot on Rinaldi. Whether it deemed a red card or not was for the ref, he had one look as it happened, and for the record I think he got his decision right. Not often I agree with a ref, even if it is against Hull. I say he got it right for 2 reasons.... 1. The RFL deemed it dangerous(for whatever reason) high, late or otherwise, and gave him a 1 match ban which Hull are not appealing on advice from McRea. Secondly... He didn't actually try and tackle Rinaldi, Moa went in to cause an impact, now we all love impacts but, when this involves making no attempt at making a tackle and knocking someone unconcious, it has to be punished. And like I say earlier in my piece, whether this seemed a red card offence at the time is now deemed by impartial people to have been the correct decision. I hope he keeps playing the way he does cos it'll make for some good derbies agianst our beast from the east and our wrecking ball.”

“A shoulder charge is legal, but like any other tackle if it makes contact with the head it is quite rightly deemed dangerous. It could have resulted in serious injury even though there was no malice intended. Our game is tough enough without encouraging head shots whether intentional, or just from mistimed tackles. My issue is with the disciplinary panels who are not always the same people, and come up with different interpretations and punishments for offences, just like referees, no consistency.”

“It says a lot when the Rovers fans think he was unlucky! It was a good hit, it was unfortunate they collided the way they did rather than anything else. I hope Sam Moa won't alter his game as a result of this ban! This is the sort of tackle that distinguishes our sport from the other game!”

“Here`s a thought.
All Superleague refs wear radio headsets. Who`s talking to them? Could it be Sky, telling them to "spice" games up a bit? Let some tackles or moves go, but punish others. Sundays game against Broncos was a bit dull and one sided `til Moa got sent off. Been some strange decisions lately and might explain the inconsistency in reffing decisions.
Or even why Saints seem to get penalties right at the end of the game.”

“It was a decision which cold have gone either way......a one match ban is not a bad decision, Rinaldi could have been seriously injured.....this is backed up by the fact that FC are not appealing the decision.
Having said that I don't think there was any malicious intent from Moa, he was just putting his mark on the game.”
