Hull FC's Gareth Ellis wants England captaincy
GARETH Ellis will throw his hat into the ring for the England captaincy, even though he fears he may be considered by coach Steve McNamara to be too old for the job.
The 31-year-old Hull FC second rower, who was flying out with England to South Africa today for their high-altitude training camp, is one of the senior members of the squad and among those fancied to succeed Jamie Peacock as national captain.

Proudest moments: Gareth Ellis
"Pulling on an England jersey is probably one of the proudest moments I've ever had and to lead the team would be fantastic," he said.
"But I appreciate I'm 31 now and probably not going to be around for too many years.

"This might be an opportunity for Steve to pick someone a bit younger. There are plenty of candidates. I suppose it depends on how Steve wants to go about it."
Ellis will be back in Super League in 2013 after bucking a trend for English players by returning from Australia's NRL.
Ellis, who left Leeds in 2008, established a tremendous reputation in the NRL, where he was Wests Tigers’ player of the year in each of his first three seasons, and would heartily recommend the move despite opting to return to take up a three-year contract at the KC.
He added: "I'm glad I did it and I wouldn't change anything. If anyone asks me, I can only tell them how good it is and I think there will be more players go out there.
"It's certainly one of the best things that I've ever done. It brought me on as a player and certainly brought me on as a person, going out there not knowing anybody and having to make your own way on and off the field."

“FCMad - why even respond to him? He wont go away, its what he does, day in day out, week in week out. He has done for as long as I can remember on here, just changes his name each week after he gets banned. 03_05_80 is just the latest name.
I manage to ignore so cant understand why other dont? If nobody responds to him you are in effect killing him, because your replies give him a sense of belonging, because outside of these forums his life is empty and worthless.
You cannot win on here against him, as he WILL NOT STOP his immature rantings. Sadly be getting involved you lower yourself to his level. Just ignore him, it really isnt hard.
Back on topic, Ellis would make a great England captain, Jamie Peacock did at 34, at 31 you have 3 or 4 years left in you at the top and your experience is second to none.
Having said that AL has earned the right to remian as FC captain and that shouldnt change, and Im sure Ellis will respect that.
Ultimatley I think SM will pick Sinfield as captain and it would be well deserved.”

“Danny Houghton the captain of England Knights. Gareth Ellis the captain of England and Huggy captain of a sinking ship I think I speak for all of Hull and Rovers fans when I say we will all be very proud.”

“FCMad. Indeed, Rovers realise they cannot afford to spend huge amounts of cash for a club that makes losses. Seems a bit odd HUll can chuck it about with a £500000 loss predicted for 2012.
Did you not hear your chairman shouting his mouth off in August about 6 international signings? evryone else did. I was expecting a signing to be announced every week as were most Hull fans.
The excitement about who would be announced on Sept 1st was all over the web. Now its just all over.”

“Copy what you do?
What like spending yourself ito bankruptcy by paying wages you can't afford?
The clever clubs are being prudent while Pearson and McRae stand on their big box shouting about signing all these internationals.
Oh, hang on...........”

“'Bigger and better clubs'.
Now that IS funny if you include Hull FC in that - usual arrogance. Big clubs win stuff in Super League. Don't recall seeing Hull's name on any SL Honours.”
