IT IS hardly a collection of vocal talents to make Simon Cowell excited, but Kirk Yeaman is at least promising an entertaining evening when his Hull FC team-mates swap rugby balls for microphones next month.

As part of Yeaman's testimonial celebrations for ten years' service, the Black and Whites centre will be joined by Hull players past and present for his Xmas Factor show at Hull City Hall.

The event on Monday, December 17, will feature current players such as Danny Houghton and Aaron Heremaia, joined by the likes of former stars Danny Washbrook, James Webster and Shaun Briscoe.

Admitting to already being nervous about his musical debut, Yeaman says he is hoping the show can be the ideal warm-up to the Christmas festivities.

"It's about getting in the Christmas spirit and getting everyone together for a bit of a laugh.

"Hopefully the fans will take over and sing my bit for me," Yeaman said.

"I'm singing Lonely This Christmas by Mud. It suits my voice but it's also only three minutes 48 seconds long, so I won't be up there too long putting people through it.

"It is way out of my comfort zone but I've got loads of the lads on board and they are going to be just as embarrassed as I am.

"It's going to be a fun night and I at least know all my words."

The Xmas Factor show is Yeaman's first major event of his testimonial calendar, with a Strictly Come Dancing show and his testimonial game against Castleford to follow next year.

Featuring a panel of local celebrity judges, including Hull FC owner Adam Pearson and former Hull City player and manager Nick Barmby, Yeaman says there will be a few surprises in store on the night.

A duet between Josh Bowden and Danny Nicklas has already caused a stir at the Hull training ground.

"We are singing Fairytale Of New York," said Bowden. "I've got the male part and Danny will be doing the Kirsty MacColl role, complete with wig and a nice little outfit.

I was happy at first but then I saw the number of words I had to sing and it is a lot more than Danny, so maybe I should have thought it through better.

"We've not had much practice and neither of us can sing but it's all a bit of fun."

Tickets for the Xmas Factor cost £10 for adults and £5 for children and can be purchased in person from the Hull City Hall ticket office, by calling 01482 300300, or by visiting www.hullcc.gov.uk/hullcityhall

“A testimonial to a Rovers player is being paid 10 months in succession without having their agent call the club.

Good luck to Yeamo. A great servant to FC.”
