Jane Pickering, of Bransholme, was there for the opening.

She said: "We come every year - it is hard not to with kids."

There are more than 250 rides this year, with everything from traditional waltzers and dodgems to new and exciting rides such as the Starflyer, the tallest ride in the country.

Mike Fieldsend, 30, was there with his two-year-old daughter Holly.

He said: "We have been coming every year since we were kids and we brought Holly last year. It is a tradition now every October isn't it? It is great."

Children's rides will open at 2pm for the rest of the fair, with the whole fair opening at 5pm and running til 11pm.
