Hull Freedom Festival 2012 Day One: City of Light and Circus Ronaldo
Hull’s annual celebration of the arts kicks off today with a play about Hull Fair and a show-stopping Belgian circus troupe.
Freedom Festival, a carnival of music, dance, theatre, comedy and art, sees thousands flock to venues across Hull city centre from September 6 to 9.

Circus Ronaldo will perform at the Fruit Market tonight at 8pm
Now in its fifth year, Freedom is firmly established in the festival calendar, and welcomes performers and artists from across the UK and Europe.
The programme for Thursday September 6 is:
Come and discover the wildlife at Blacktoft Sands nature reserve for just £6. Offer includes entry for 2 adults and up to 3 children, binocular hire and activities for children. Normal value £12.
Terms: Redeem voucher at visitor reception during opening hours, 9am to 5pm. Only, one pair of binoculars per voucher, customers will need to leave car keys as a deposit for binoculars.

7.45pm: City of Light, Hull Truck Theatre, Spring Street
A performance following the fortunes of Bert and Rose, City of Light is a story of Hull Fair recalled by the people of Hull themselves.
The performance charts the tale of Bert and Rose, from the moment they meet at Hull Fair in 1935 to the day Bert goes back to the Fair to look for his lost love.
The pair find themselves dealing with prejudice which threatens to keep them apart forever - will their love survive through the years?
Tickets: Thursday - Friday £15/ £12 Concessions.
8pm: Circus Ronaldo – Amortale, Fruit Market, Humber Street/Queen Street
An evening of comedy, theatre and visual delights, Circus Ronaldo sees a traditional Belgian circus family perform in the shadows of circus caravans and inside their circus tent.
Tickets: Adults £11/ Concessions £8.50; Family Ticket £27.50 (2 adults & 2 children).
