Could Hull to Hornsea and Withernsea railways be reinstated?
EAST RIDING: An ambitious campaign is being launched tomorrow to reinstate railways from Hull to Hornsea and Withernsea.
Patrick Wilkinson, from the East Yorkshire Rail Regeneration meeting, has organised a meeting tomorrow at the Jack Gledhill centre, Queen Street, Withernsea, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.
He said: "I believe the railway is within our grasp but we have to show it would be profitable by saying "Yes, I would use it".
"Four years before the line closed, 10,000 journeys were recorded on the line in one week.

“You cannot just put railway lines back, the land degrades, the entire route would need to be rebuilt, then what about the poor souls who have happily lived in the old stations for years, or people who would suddenly find railway lines going past their gardens, let alone the sheer number of level crossings that would need to be reinstated. Before all of that there are surveys, acts of Parliament and many other obstacles to overcome. The idea to electrify the line to Leeds and to join up to the East Coast Mainline hold far more water and would make much more sense. Some Muppet will be suggesting they rebuild Cannon Street station next and start running out to North Cave and beyond on the old Hull and Barnsley Railway.”

“I'd love to see the railways back but it's probably not viable.”

“Suggestions of steam trains is equally ridiculous, expensive and unsustainable. A reason to visit Withernsea is what is needed. A traintrack with nothing at the end of it
won't help.”

“Withernsea to Hull rail? Pipe dream. Won't happen.
When they are threatening to cut Hull to London direct, Withernsea to Hull is ridiculous.”

“I would rather have the railway back than the dog sh*t infested tracks we have now.”

“This is very ambitious, but good luck as I believe the only way to regenerate declining towns is improved transport links.”

“The priority must be to electrify from Selby to Hull (I believe Leeds to Selby already has the go ahead). The people of Hull and East Riding must sign up and be heard: http://tinyurl.com/9e4t7f7”
