The Hull and Humber is undergoing repairs this morning after colliding with another yacht as they left the port in South Africa.

The yacht was starting the third leg of the Clipper 09-10 Round the World Yacht Race when it was hit by the Cork, Ireland Clipper.

Both boats had to go back to return to harbour.

No one was injured.

Hull and Humber skipper Piers Dudin said: "They made a move to avoid us but they were picked up by a big gust – it was quite gusty – which restricted their ability to avoid us.

"We managed to go back and we sheltered by Table Mountain."

The boats were heading to Australia.

“I hope they manage to repair the boat soon ...it would appear the Hull and Humber crew are not destined to be on the podium no matter how good they are , et hope this is the last of their troubles :)”

“This is a great story. Proves that there is still sportsmanship on this planet! Hope both teams get underway very soon. Sail hard and God speed!”
