HULL KR's Lincoln Withers is confident he and Craig Hall can solve Rovers' half-back worries – starting against St Helens on Sunday.

The duo were called upon to steer the Robins to victory at Wakefield when scrum-half Michael Dobson suffered a shoulder injury late in the first half.

With Dobson now facing a spell on the sidelines alongside Blake Green, it leaves Hall and Withers as favourites to stand in again at MS3 Craven Park this weekend.

And despite having seven years more experience, Withers says he'll be happy to let Hall lead the way.

"He will probably be the main half-back," Withers told the Mail.

"I was impressed with Craig in the halves. He's one of the most talented players at the club.

"He can kick, run, pass and every week he plays in the halves he gets more confident and he has grown as a player.

"Hopefully, this week we will see him grow a bit more, but we'll all help each other out wherever we play."

As an established Super League hooker, Withers is accustomed to the play-making responsibilities which come at half-back, with the roles much more similar than in previous years.

"You run the same plays as a hooker, getting out and halves getting out," he said.

"In attack, the roles are quite similar, it's in defence where it will be a little bit different."

Whilst appreciating the demands of the half-back role, Withers also has much admiration for St Helens' fellow hooker James Roby, one of many Saints stars KR will need to keep in check this weekend.

"James Roby is an outstanding player and he has started the same way he finished last season," said Withers.

"He's a very important player for Saints, but if you concentrate on Roby too much you lose sight of everyone else, which probably makes him a better player anyway.

"We have to take them as a team and it's important for us to play well. The big thing for us is to keep the intensity and attitude we have shown already this season.

"We have to match them if we want to compete.

"Our forwards are playing really good rugby and getting more games under their belt.

"Mickey Paea and Joel Clinton have been great and even the young kids like Scott Taylor stepped up.

"Con Mika is another who is getting better each week and we need a big game from him again."

If Rovers' pack do get the upper hand on Saints, Withers and Hall will be expected to create chances for the outside backs to thrive on. So far this season, Rovers' backs have crossed for just two of KR's eight tries.

"We want to give our backs some early ball and hopefully they will score some points for us," he said.

"We've scored a few tries down the middle which isn't a bad thing when you're in the forwards, and hopefully we can get a few more.

"Whatever game you play, whether it's out wide or in close, the middle is where the platform is laid and that's where it starts.

"Last week was a really rough game in tough conditions. The most pleasing thing was the attitude we showed without Michael and we have to do that again."
