Hull KR's crunch talks over club's Craven Park future
HULL KR chairman Neil Hudgell is set for crunch talks with council chiefs over the club’s future at its Craven Park ground – and in East Hull.
Frustrated at continuing delays over a new £8.2m North Stand, he has warned that Rovers’ directors may not continue bankrolling the club beyond this season unless serious progress is made.

FRUSTRATED: Hull KR chairman Neil Hudgell.
And amid suggestions Rovers are considering a move to the KC stadium, he will now hold talks with Hull City Council leader Steve Brady and chief executive Nicola Yates on Monday to discuss the issue.
Sources confirmed to the Mail that talks over a possible switch – which would see a three way ground share at the KC with Hull City and Rovers’ rivals Hull FC – have already been held and although such a move remains unlikely, has not been ruled out.
When contacted by the Mail yesterday, Mr Hudgell said the club had to “consider all options” for the long-term future but refused to comment on speculation about a move to west Hull.
He said: “The priority for us is still to develop Craven Park into a high-quality Super League stadium. I have a meeting with council officials on Monday in which we hope to push that forward.
“However, given the delays we have already experienced on this project and its importance to the club’s ability to be self-financing, we would only be protecting the club’s best interests long term by assessing all available options.”
Rovers lost about £450,000 a year in their first three seasons in Super League.
Those losses were reduced to £250,000 in 2010, but preparing to announce a similar figure when totting up their figures for 2011, Mr Hudgell again stressed an improved stadium, and crowds of 10,000, are needed for the club to break even.
“Our club have always been honest about our finances, too honest maybe if truth be known,” Mr Hudgell told the Mail.
“We will make another loss in our next accounts and as I have said before, we will continue to do that until we have better facilities.
“That has always been our choice, as a board we underwrite that. However, there has to be light at the end of the tunnel for us, and I can’t imagine we will have an appetite to do that beyond the end of this year though. I certainly haven’t, so we must see realisation of these plans.”
Councillor Brady confirmed both he and Ms Yates are to meet Mr Hudgell on Monday.
And he stressed the authority remained “100 per cent committed” to delivering a new stand for KR.
“I know Neil will be looking for assurances from us on Monday but we will be providing them because we remain 100 per cent committed to this,” he told the Mail.
“We are just as frustrated as Rovers and we are doing everything we can to get the North Stand built.
“In these difficult financial times this is a big financial commitment for us, but one we are fully committed to, as we see this being a project that gives Hull KR a long-term future at Craven Park.
“The idea of Hull KR playing at the KC Stadium is just nonsense.
“The fans will never have it and it will simply not happen. The North Stand will happen, we just need a bit more patience from people as we await the European money.”
Assem Allam, owner of the Stadium Management Company and Hull City, has previously said he would welcome Rovers into the KC Stadium should they wish.
The matter has come to a head following another setback on the building of the North Stand.
The project – first proposed way back in 2008 – has been beset by delays, largely out of the club’s hands.
Hull City Council has led the project, but three target dates for building work to start have come and gone, last June, then November and finally last month.
Delays were caused firstly by an error in costing the project by the local authority, leaving a shortfall of close to £1 million and forcing the tendering process to re-start.
Now, the Mail has learned that more than £2 million in European regional development funding is still to be secured.
This was due to the deadline to apply being missed as a result of the initial costing setback.
Should Rovers look to move to the KC, they would have to become paying tenants and seek permission from the RFL.
However, it would be fans of the Robins who would need the most convincing to make the switch from east to west.

“Steve1865
It's 14,500 to balance the books not 14,000
I thought it was the FC fans favourite subject.
They have reminded us about our break even figure
for the last 4 years.
I was just trying to pick a topic that the FC fans like to focus on.
I can change it to Crowd sizes, Shirt sales or License grades if you want.
We won't be moving to the KC. not even for the Derby this year
so its a pointless discussion.”

“Amazing how the start of every season seems to herald yet more problems for the poor old dobbins. Life just continues to get better and better when you're a fan of the real SL team in Hull, the mighty black and whites.
Gonna be a long season you dobbins :-)”
