floods.
Around 30,000 people came out for the annual parade.
Baton-twirling majorettes, colourful floats, a brass band,
and a time-travelling De Lorean all accompanied the Lord Mayor,
Councillor Brenda Petch, as she made her way from West Park to
East Park on Saturday.
The floats set off from the Walton Street car park on
Saturday, finishing at East Park in time for a gala which
lasted into the evening.
Councillor Petch was delighted with the turn-out for the
event.
She said: “It's extremely important for the city to have the
parade. Hull is a traditional city and it enjoys the
traditional things like the Lord Mayor's Parade.
“I was absolutely delighted with the weather, because after
the floods we needed that not to happen again.
“I was watching the weather at six in the morning. I was so
happy when it said it was going to be sunny and dry.”
Floats from around Hull competed to be named as the mayor's
favourite, and after various prizes were handed out the float
from Hull Council of Disabled People was pronounced the best
dressed at the event.
The float, on the theme of myth and magic, features witches,
wizards and even a dragon.
Money raised during the parade will go to Victim Support,
the Lord Mayor's chosen charity for this year.

“my daughter took part in the parade as a member of a majorette troup. the girls worked hard to put together their routine, many family members and friends arranged to meet at east park to give last minue encouragement, after been rushed through the parade route by eager police force we arrived very early at the park and they missed the parade.”

“My voluntary group spent a few months preparing for the event in order to perform a Chinese Lion Dance to raise money for childrens charities. We raised £88 in total which will be used to help young children who need it. All the people that were on the parade with us were volunteers. I am upset that people say it was a disgrace. Our young students really enjoyed the parade and even the adults as well. And i would like to say to the Hull City Council many thanks for inviting us. and we will be there for sure next year in order to make it an even better parade.
Maybe some people need to get less upset and volunteer to join in next year. It takes a lot of hard work but it is worth it to see young children smile.
Well done to all.

“This has to be the funniest headline of the year... How can anybody class a couple of floats as a success. Where are the promoters, do they bother to go out and drum up support. It was very disappointing, and nowhere near a success.”

“Very disappointed at the small parade this year - I'm sure a lot of people's children were too.
But it was very good anyway!”

“There were many floats that wanted to take part but had far too many health and safety requirements put on them that they could simply not fullfil the requirements, some had to drop out at last the eleveth hour...”

“Your article states how good the parade was and how important it is to the city.
I thought the parade was a disgrace -- about 6 floats and 4 marching groups.
If this is the extent of the parade, then a major input is needed to bring it back to the extent it was two years ago.”

“What about all the floats and the marching groups that we saw on the last parade.
This year it was a disgrace with only half a dozen floats and three groups.
If this parade is important to the city a major improvement will have to be made for the next on”
