First Hull Trains has one of the highest passenger satisfaction ratings, according to a report published today.

The National Passenger Survey - which uses data from August 2012 - shows the number of customers satisfied with their journey rose by seven per cent on the previous year to 95 per cent.

Contrasting results: Northern Rail was bottom of the customer satisfaction survey, while First Hull Trains saw the biggest improvement.

That was the highest rise in the country, and only Grand Central has a higher overall rating.

Managing director Richard Parry said: "These results are exceptional and reflect the high standards of customer service we pride ourselves upon.

"We are dedicated to taking care of our passengers and this recognition from customers directly is extremely gratifying."

Earlier this month, Hull Trains revealed passenger numbers had risen by 10 per cent over the past year.

The firm has faced some criticism in recent months for reliability issues. However, late last year it revealed ambitious plans to spearhead a possible investment of up to £100m in the region's railways.

Meanwhile, Northern Rail, which operates the majority of local services, has the lowest satisfaction rating, at 80 per cent.

“I always find the staff brilliant on Hull trains, but the Hull to Kingscross service can be very unreliable. Last week my elderly mother and I had to make our way home on the very full Edinburgh train, changing at Doncaster due to a cancellation. Its so annoying when you've booked months in advance and have a reserved seat only to end up standing for hours then hanging around a freezing station at 9pm!!!!”

“Do not trust them any more to get me to kings cross so I now fly from Manchester via Transpennine.”

“The last time I booked Kings Cross to Hull with Hull Trains they cancelled the train, forcing me to go with East Coast via Doncaster which cost me nearly 2 hours on my journey. I no longer use Hull Trains.”

“The staff are good the trains are poor and need to be electric
"The priority must be to electrify from Selby to Hull (I believe Leeds to Selby already has the go ahead). The people of Hull and East Riding must sign up and be heard: http://tinyurl.com/9e4t7f7"

“I travel Hull Trains quite a bit, & have never been asked. I had to come home on East Coast on my last trip, as the usual cancelled sign was glowing bright at Kings Cross. If someone had asked my opinion at that point, I might have said that I was less than satisfied”

“Mmmm...yet this morning, my train to Leeds at 6 a.m. (First TPE) was cancelled and I had to catch the much slower, stopping service (Northern) which actually ran to time!
    Statistics somewhat meaningless today!”
