Hull's County Road North flyover to reopen this evening after final checks
The County Road North flyover is due to reopen this evening after final safety checks took longer than anticipated.
Hull City Council said last week it would reopen the road this afternoon.

The County Road North flyover remained closed this afternoon
But it has now confirmed the flyover will be ready for traffic after this evening's rush hour.
Graham Hall, assistant head of transport and asset management, said: "The final safety checks have taken slightly longer than anticipated. The flyover will now reopen early evening after the rush hour traffic has eased.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this slight delay may cause. However, we are pleased to have been able to reopen it almost four weeks ahead of the original schedule."
County Road North was closed on September 24. The work was originally scheduled to be completed on November 11, but was re-organised after the closure resulted in long delays for motorists.
Controlled temporary lights will be in place today to ensure the safety of the workforce who will be completing works under the bridge.

“It's open! I've been across today and it was the usual thrill, up, over and down. Yeeehaaaarrr!”

“i thought it was hilarious closing County Road flyover at the same time as Hull Fair clogging up Springbank and Anlaby Road. Also to top it off, that closing of Park Street at the same time was an absolute treat. There really are some brain-dead muppets in this Council. It's not as if EVERYBODY has pointed out the aforementioned.”

“It was open by 7am this morning for definite although not many cars were using it, probably because they weren't sure whether it was going to be open or not. I think the temporary lights must be somewhere near the top.
The people working under the bridge are actually nowhere near the railway tracks so WhoMeNever can calm down.”

“Our council are about as funny as VD.
And before all you bleedin-hearts out there start defending the council and blaming the contractors, the council organised this farce, they signed it off, they allowed it to happen and they need to take responsibility for the chaos and misery this has wrought to commuters and someone should be held accountable.
Is the road open yet (10:15 tue morning)
IS the road fully open or are there lights (to protect people working UNDER the bridge??????? - I would be more worried about trains if I were under the bridge).
Who backside can I kick about this?”

“It would appear the council can't even get the re-opening date right. They did originally say it would be open on Saturday 13th October NOT Monday 15th. It was still closed at 10pm last night with no sign of life! I avoided it again this morning as the "will it/won't it be open" saga is becoming a farce!!!”

“It wasn't open at 9.30 p.m. tonight (Monday 15th October) and no sign of anyone working on it so I doubt it will be open in the morning.”

“You would think that the council would have taken the opportunity to fix ALL the potholes in the road whilst it was closed. However in their wisdom they have only repaired so many of them, leaving big chunks of road still full of holes. For the cyclists using the road, they take their life in their hands as the majority of unfixed potholes are at the side of the road where cyclists ride. The sink at the bottom of the flyover near the Priory Pub is a deathtrap! I would also have thought that the full road would have been resurfaced as it is truly the worst road in Hull!”

“Did it never occur to anyone that the consequences of this closure would result in traffic being diverted to use Spring Bank at the same time as there would be considerable congestion arising from Hull Fair on at the same time with more diversions of its own? There needs to be better co-ordination when planning these extended closures that could in theory be planned for in advance to allow for potential conflicts.”

“So is the road fully open or not?
The temporary lights mentioned, are they there just for today?
If not, I reckon the continued presence of lights will only continue the chaos.”
