Is this pothole by the side of the A63 the biggest in Hull?

The ruined section of sliproad was snapped by Mail photographer Rob Stebbing at the Hessle Road junction.

Earlier this week a mother hit out at the state of Hull's roads after her 12-year-old daughter broke her leg in a pothole.

Michelle Goodhand called on the council to act quickly to repair roads after daughter Morgan twisted her foot in a 3in-deep pothole while playing yards from her home in Severn Street, east Hull.

“Road tax introduced to repair roads after the 2nd world war.

Today MILLIONS of vehicles, high amounts of road tax. Some people have a car to travel to work and there away all week in there work vehicle a truck for example which has had road tax paid to use on the roads. What I'm referring to here is there are taxed vehicles not even being used so not damaging the roads and yet the roads up and down the country are in a beyond poor state.
Eddie Stobarts trucks must have at least £2.5m of road tax on them alone. Then there drivers who may have cars with paid road tax. So theres around £3m just from 1 company and there emloyees. Then theres the rest of us who are slowly being force out of cars as the fuel prices are so high doing less milage (less damage) but still paying for that year on the road.

The big question is where is the money going?”

“It might be the biggest in area but it doesn't look that deep. There are many worse ones, several inches deep, on Argyle Street Bridge, Londesborough Street, Princes Avenue, etc, etc......make your own list!”

“Does this mean at last someone is collectively going to get onto whoever is responsible for repairing the pot holes. There would soon be an outcry if the general public stopped paying it's road tax but if you do that they can come and take your car away and have it crushed. It's about time we turned the tables and got the people in charge to crunch some numbers and turn it into getting our roads repaired or shall we just wait until someone gets seriously injured or killed before action is done. Massive pothole on southcoates lane near the prison been there for months.”

“A week or so ago I saw potholes being filled on Annandale Road, near to the Falkland Road turnoff and the giveway narrows. A week later thay are all back and as bad as ever. As most of these seem to be at either side of road humps isn't it time we got rid of these silly so called traffic calming measures that few take notice of anyway and get our roads back to some semblence of normality? I think the light up warnings are better and others like those used a lot in Lincolnshire where the vehicles' approaching speed is lit up. It is almost natural to reduce your speed if you are over and the people that don't are the ones who have no intention of drivng to ANY given speed limit.”
