Hull's traffic wardens on dawn patrols to clear bus lanes
TRAFFIC wardens are to embark on early morning patrols to ease Hull's gridlock by targeting motorists causing rush-hour jams.
Plans are being drawn up to extend the working hours of wardens as Hull City Council brings parking enforcement in-house.

Patrols: A bus lane in Holderness Road, Hull
Since 2006, Hertfordshire-based contractor Vinci Park Services UK has been delivering parking enforcement, on behalf of the local authority, working from 8am to 6pm.
But the company's workforce will transfer into council control next month, with patrols due to start at 7am.

Anyone caught parking illegally faces a penalty charge notice (PCN) of £50 or £70, depending on the severity of the offence. Fines are halved if they are paid within 14 days.
Councillor Martin Mancey, portfolio holder for transport, says he hoped it will prove a deterrent to those who park inconsiderately.
He said: "The move to bring the parking enforcement service in-house will give us greater flexibility allowing us to focus on localised enforcement and target problem areas of the city.
"In the interest of improving traffic flow, we are looking to make better use of parking officers once they transfer to us.
"The most immediate thing we will be doing is with regards enforcing bus lanes and double-yellow lines on main commuter routes.
"There have been numerous instances where bus lanes have been blocked, sometimes by vans making deliveries."
The move looks set to be well-received by motorists and bus companies alike, with EYMS stating they were pleased to see positive action in response to talks

“On roads such as Anlaby road one lane is simply not enough to cope with the volume of traffic. The sooner the bus lanes are removed, the sooner Hull will start moving again.
If the private bus companies want there own private road then they should put up the money to build one.”

“It used to take me about 3 minutes to get to the city centre down Anlaby Road. Now, I go to Brough to catch the train because of the morning traffic chaos. Let's remember that the buses are private companies operated for profit. Why should they have their own private stretch of road paid for by us motorists?"
The Anlaby Road is not funded by motorists, but by the KHCC council tax payers many of which will not even own a car.”

“Hull's traffic warden's are a burden on my eye-sight, every time I pass them on Clough Road I feel like clobbing them over the head with a wooden baton....
However this is interesting:

“Whilst on holiday on Tenerife I have seen illegally parked cars ticketed and forcibly removed by the Authorities in minutes. A lot of the time the owner's of the vehicles were stood by the side of the road not being allowed to move it once the ticket had been put on the vehicle. It is pointless fining the owner only for the vehicle to be left where it is, still causing an obstruction, which is what is trying to be prevented in the first place.
Another place this tends to occur is outside of schools even on zig-zag lines, some people don't seem able to different Law that applies between NO STOPPING and NO PARKING. Even though they get ticketed someone else decides to chance their luck day after day. We need more of a deterrent. Tow them away and make the culprits pay even if it's not profit making. These people cannot be stupid otherwise how did they pass their Driving Test, but then again a lot nowadays seem to drive with no consideration for other Road Users and sometimes not even within the Law!
I was once told by a man in his fifties, in a Council van who drove out in front of me, of course I didn't run in to him, that the Rule for Roundabouts was not the same applied to mini-roundabouts. He was so sure he was right and wanted me to wait whilst he contacted his boss, who would come and lecture me. I only hope his boss is more intelligent. I was also told by another motorist on Lambwath Road, if you enter from James Reckitt Avenue end you have Priority all the way through to Sutton Road. Again this is misinterpretation as there are only two give way points on that Road. Travelling in that direction, the first being at Cherry Lane and the second at Burlington Road. The 20mph is frequently not adhered to down this road also, probably by the same people exercising their right of Priority which apart fom two places they don't have. Education in Road Traffic Law and Rules seems to be the Key factor as well as common sense which is seriously lacking.”

“As has been pointed out on a few of these posts, part of the problem is "the bus lane" and another part is amount of traffic on roads that where not built to cope with it.
When bus lanes where introduced, bus or bicycle were the main source of transport for commuters, and kids walked to school, not many could afford a car or had as far to travel. thus the traffic flowed better, there was far less of it. Now most buses are empty, they are too expensive or inconvenient, kids are driven to school, and more use the car, thus there is more traffic and it goes slower. the roads need improving and widening to cope with the increased flow. An illegally parked vehicle with a ticket is still as much of an obstacle as an illegally parked one without. Unless the wardens have powers to have vehicles towed away, its a joke, and frankly just more spin from a backward thinking regime.”
