Humber NHS Trust knows where food comes from
EAST YORKS: The Humber NHS Trust is one of the few UK health trusts which knows where the food it serves patients comes from.
Only one in ten NHS trusts knows where the food they serve patients comes from, research by the Countryside Alliance Foundation has found.
Humber NHS Foundation Trust was the best performer, with 98 per cent of its food served in 2009-10 being produced in Britain.
A total of 225 out of 267 trusts did not know what countries the food they served in their hospitals, clinics and centres originated from in 2009-10, Freedom Of Information requests by the foundation reveal.
Alice Barnard, chief executive of the Countryside Alliance Foundation, said: "Although the current economic conditions are making life difficult for hospitals, the importance of buying high-quality British food should not be overlooked."
