The report, entitled Financial Outlook 2013.14 Onwards, says: "The next two years will present a significant challenge to the authority's finances.

"The authority currently has a sound financial position but we must not be complacent and should continue wherever possible to ensure the service remains efficient and effective.

"The position will now be kept under continuous review through to budget-setting in February."

The report says, to balance the budget, efficiencies of up around £2m will have to be made before March 2014, with further cuts of between £1m and £2m needed before March 2015. The report will be discussed at a meeting of the Humberside Fire Authority on Friday.

It takes place at the service headquarters in Summergroves Way, west Hull, from 10.30am. It is open to the public.

“They could always ask Prescott for a hand out, after all didn't he waste £500 million on fire control centres?”

“They could get rid of some of higher management. I bet the service is top heavy. And why do the top brass need such expensive vehicles?

Name me a British car they could use? The only true British cars are kit cars or small manufacturers of specialist cars. The reason they use the Skodas is they are a very good car.
The Ambulance service has replaced the Zafiras, which are dreadful in snow, with four wheel drive Skodas. Can't see why anyone would object to their replacemnt by a far more capable vehicle?”

“Efficiencies, savings, cuts - all terms are bandied about interchangeably by public sector chiefs. The large majority of reductions forced by the coalition are either cuts to services reduced pay or both. All one asks for is honesty.”

“They could save some cash by teaching the drivers of the Silver Skoda's to drive properly and stick to the speed limits! One overtook me on the Humber Bridge doing about 70, and no it was not responding.”
